Finally, a year on, have got curtains up in the sitting room. They look lovely. But. And a big but (given I am crap at interior designy stuff) I now need cushions and throws to bring it all together.

Why the actual fuck did I choose tartan curtains. Fuck. Now totally clueless what colour, shape, design, anything will go. All I know is my current cushions are the wrong shade (too pinky cream). So I need to start from scratch.

So, curtain material is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Curtain-Terracotta-Designer-Upholstery-The/dp/B00GHPU4XA
Sofa is a creamy (yellowy) brocade (can't afford to change atm) It matches the creamy yellow stripe in the tartan
Floor is smoked oak.
Brick fireplace is kind of the focal point. Pics on profile.

Oh lovely, stylish mumsnetters...what cushions should I get? Please help. Cream yellow? Red? Sandy coloured?. Striped? Dotty? Flowery Something else?

Thank you!

Wafflesnaffler Thank you. Those are brilliant - have read the first couple already and will check out the others too.

*InsertUsername" brilliant idea! I took up knitting recently (broke my foot so was sofa bound) so am having visions of chunky knitted cushions with a few large tartan covered buttons on them.... and the piping idea is fab.

Anyhoo....have after a trip out today and a lot of interweb searching found the perfect oak TV cabinet. Tis ordered and on it's way. Once here I shall be revisiting the finishing touches - but without the orangy TV stand dominating. Things will look much softer and am hoping the lack of imbalance will calm me into making some choices. So thank you Dilidali for saying it how it was. You got rid of my orange denial Grin

In the meantime I shall get knitting something cream (can't go wrong) and a big thank you everyone Flowers

Ooh. Large covered button sound lovely files idea and will use in my own house, maybe pretending I came up with it myself rather than shamelessly nicking it from you

I absolutely love that oak tv stand you linked, it looks classic and will work with whatever you do with the room.
You're a genius re: tartan buttons, I might steal that idea myself!
Once it had arrived, could you post another picture, please?

Oh, and are you going to paint the mirror frame (above the fireplace)? You could pick one of the tartan colours for it, that'll complement, maybe?

Glad my suggestion changed things for the better :)
