help!, wrong colour Grey paint used, has anyone used either Dark Lead Little Greene company or french grey?

Hi

I've just had my kitchen / family room painted whilst I was on holiday - kitchen units and tiles are a beige / creme painted farmhouse style. I wanted to go grey to move away from the boring beiges - I choose a Mylands grey paint but have come home and it looks very 'air force blue'. Gutted...

the decorater has kindly said he will repaint for free - so... my dilemma is - the room is predominantly beige - sofa, kitchen, tiles, brown wooden floorboards etc, but I really fancy grey - I'm looking at Little Greene Paint company and the colours in particular I like are french grey or lead / dark lead - or portland stone

I know a beige like F & B's London Stone will go really well, but Im just so oo bored of the beige 'safe' colour schemes that have been around for years.

SHould I play it safe and stick with beiges or try another shade of grey ?? HAs anyone used any of these colours ?? this is my last chance!!

please help...
P.S. Im avoiding F & B colours as read reviews that they are not hard wearing with kids - better off sticking to little greene company or Mylands

French grey is not grey, I liked it when I did it, but it defo was not grey.

If I were you I'd get a sample and paint it on the wall to see what it looks like in your room. Colours can seem really different under different lights (this is how I ended up with a purple hallway when I wanted grey!)

Greys are tricky they have either a blue, green or purple undertone, which doesn't tend to come out until you've painted a large area. If you've got yellowy beiges they'll be bringing out the blue tones even more.

Maybe try more of a greige so that it's not contrasting so much with the beige, or a dark chocolatey brown would work well with beige and be quite dramatic.

we used Alfie from b&q which is a mushroom browny grey. we love it.

French grey is more green than grey.

You need to find a lovely greige colour, Google "revere pewter" and click on "images" an American Benjamin Moore colour but beautiful, elephants breath by F & B is one of my favorites. (Sorry about the F & B).

Search Pinterest for ideas, again search greige.

Your kitchen sounds fab.

LGPC French Grey is greige and F and B French Grey is Green.

Lead and mid Lead are very true greys, have used them quite a bit.

I am mostly a farrow and ball or annie sloan girl I am sure you are right about french grey and I am told the quality of LGPC is superb.

You really can't go wrong with dulux egyptian cotton. It might not be dark enough, or grey enough, for what you want but it's a lovely colour. It seems to change from more beige to more grey as the day goes on and contrasts really well with the white ceiling even though it's not a very dark colour.

Dulux cotton Looks a great colour. OP google Egyptian cotton & click on images and tell us what you think.

I've got both Lead and Dark Lead all over my house. I prefer the dark lead and find the Lead a bit too bluey in my house. Get testers - it looks really different depending on the light. I've got the dark lead paired with LG clockface which is a sort of off white - I suspect it will be nice with the right colour beige. Don't use the water-based eggshell - it's rubbish, get the oil based

Always... any idea what is the nearest uk equivalent to revere pewter?

I haven't used elephant's breath as it always seems too brown on the colour chart, but does it come out quite grey on the wall?

Dulux Perfectly Taupe is a greige type colour. I know it's not a fancy paint co. but the rest of my house is F&B and LG and I honestly can't tell the difference. The colour is good.

LG French Grey dark is absolutely lovely too.

My in-laws have elephants breath in a south facing kitchen and it looks almost pinkish sometimes...

I'm LOVING the lgpc dark lead but am nervous on closing the walls in too much with a dark colour and Also it not going with the beige. Anyone (lightning strikes or spotty 26???) used a combi of dark lead and french grey dark in the same room?. W

I am sure it is possible to find a code or number for revere pewter and any dulux trade centre will make it up for you.

Elephants breath is certainly not brown, the charts are not very accurate, it is a red based greige, which is why it can have an almost lilac tinge in south facing rooms. I have used it in north facing rooms with lots of white and black.
