Out of interest are there any leftie/arty Guardian reading non daily mail places to live within reasonable commuting distance of London? Can only think of Brighton. Rest more DM zone e.g Sevenoaks, TW etc. where do the lefties go??

Whitstable isn't particularly 'leftie' at all. The tories won last week, closely followed by UKIP.

Well there are some left wing people there, but there's also a fair bit of local resentment at the 'DFL's who have bought up a lot of the houses for holidays, leaving them empty the rest of the year, and pushed prices up beyond what a lot of local people can afford.

I live down the road from Whitstable and used to go there when I was younger, and like it a lot, but now you can barely move for tourists, awful madly priced 'upcycling' shops selling repainted furniture etc.

Wht I mean is it's become a bit of a pastiche of left wing ism

People might read the guardian but the buying up of second houses 'because they can afford to' isn't left wing really is it.
