Now looking at Eastbourne, any thoughts?

We are thinking of moving to Eastbourne from Kent. Looking for any information on schools, areas to avoid, areas that are good. What it's like to live there. Etc' I have two DSs, 2 and 4 and am a Sahm mum, so wondering about primary and secondary schools (would be hoping not to move again), is there much on for kids, is it a friendly place? Easy to meet other mums?

Especially since ds1 would be moving part way through the school year. Would I struggle to talk to mums at the school gate?

Anything else you think we need to know really. Budget is around 300k though less would be better.

Hi We moved from Kent last Nov with three kids. One baby and two in Primary school. Please bear in mind most of the schools in eastbourne are oversubscribed especially in old town. We moved onto the street next to Pashley and were allocated a school in Hampden Park. The kids have settled there but it is a bit of a journey from our house and not in the area i would have liked them to be schooled, this said they are doing very well there.

Moving to an area close to your preffered school will not get you a space there - believe me i have tried!

When are you moving

Do not go there It beats hastings but Hastings is the 19th poorest place in the UK so it is easy to beat hastings Eastbourne is going downhill and is in fact on the regeneration list as it needs a lot of attention Currently it is getting younger but seems to attract losers and those on Bens are being moved there. The train to London is a pain taking an hour and a half and when the children grow up they will probably have to leave to get jobs etc Eastbourne is a lovely place to visit and great scenery etc but life is limited due to its small size and poor transport links hence no big firms want to move here A great place if you are a nurse or carer though as there is loads of (badly paid)jobs Not a place to prosper in
Once you move to a place such as Eastbourne you then get trapped and if you do not like it it can be a pain to move out of it as eveywhere else is more expensive
