That is just lovely! A good find - difficult to understand why anyone would want to cover them up but perhaps that has protected then becuase they look in very good condition.

Gorgeous floor! And so good condition - fab!

We had out house rewired as we moved in (and for 6 weeks afterwards grrr) so had every floor in the house up - knew we wouldn't find anything nice. But we took the hardboard covers off the stairs and found the original 1930s stair rods :)

My hall is black and white orignal tiles, it was painted banana yellow under the carpert of pre-owners lol.

I am feeling smug

We've been there 2 years. Previous owners told is there waca tiled floor underneath but they told it was like the porch floor - so we assumed it was quite plain and faded. I am guessing it has always been covered with a carpet or rug.

I ripped my carpet up today. And found horrible cheap boards. And then remembered that my house is 12 years old and we are the first owners.

When we took up the carpet in our last house, we found they had used copies of The Catholic Times dated 1952 as underlay. There were adverts for the original VW Beetle.

I'm so jealous. We took up the carpet in our upstairs hall and found a mixture of crappy floorboards and nasty brown vinyl tiles stuck to them. I dread to think what we'll find under the laminate downstairs. It won't be stunningly beautiful no matter what.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but my parents had a simlar floor in their old house. They tried everything to make the hall warmer (it was a bog hall) eg curtains behind the door, draught-proofing the gaps, even installed another radiator, but the hall just didn't stay warm. They put a carpet over their beautiful floor to try and keep the heat in.

I don't care if its cold! Anyway the house is so insulated it's too damned hot even in the middle of winter. A bit of chill will be a relief
