Burford Grey Howdens kitchen - what colour shall I paint the walls?

We've just had our lovely new kitchen fitted, which is the Burford grey ...

www.howdens.com/product-range/kitchen-collection/kitchen-families/burford/burford-grey/

In real life, they look more of a very pale green than grey really.

I'm stumped on wall colours. I'd like to do one wall in Overtly Olive (a darkish olive green). I've tried other pale greens, but they are all very similar to the cabinets. I'm not too keen on having white, from a practicality point of view. And creams I'm not keen on (as they make the cupboards look a little dirty - I think white is a nicer contrast against the cupboard colour).

Any ideas or help appreciated! I've got to stop spending money on tester pots and make a decision!

Thanks

Sitting back and pinching watching ideas as I am also having burford grey.

MissPollysTrolleyed · 02/07/2012 14:01

Me too as I am also getting this kitchen and am also stumped on colours!

How about a greyer cream/greige? Slipper satin? Cornforth white? Both Farrow & Ball but can get colour-matched at a trade place. Our wooden dog bed Grin is painted in Farrow & Ball Light Blue (leftover paint, I'm not so sad that I bought it especially for the dog) which is a pale greenish grey similar to the Burford and it looks nice next to the slipper satin walls in the kitchen

I like the units, a lot!

Pannacotta · 02/07/2012 18:45

amazonian did you decide on your units in the end?
I agree that a creyer cream woudl work with the Burford Grey. Nice kitchen OP.

Nooooooo! We decided on plan no. 437 and had plans drawn up for a diner/family room extension to make the space work better and to create a study. The architect rang today to say that we don't fall within permitted development so will have to go through planning. He's back next week with 2 designs.

I think it will be an eternal pipe dream...

How about you and your beautiful Sydenham lookalike?!

sheeplikessleep · 02/07/2012 19:16

Thanks for your suggestions, that pale grey is lovely.

There is a similar Dulux ...

(Not that I'm obsessed with getting kitchen paint!).

Thanks, I've got another angle to go down now to try out. Thanks!

Sounds like you've got enough ideas but I went through the same thought process as you, thinking maybe Overtly Olive for a wall in our burford grey kitchen. In the end we went for Dulux timeless which works really well. Although it's v.pale it seems to be quite hard wearing, have wiped off crayon marks already. Depends on your kitchen though as ours is north facing I wanted to make things as light as possible. Also have off white work surfaces but dark flooring.
Everyone loves burford grey when they see it. Good choice!

amazonianwoman · 02/07/2012 20:32

Oh yes our bathroom is timeless above the tongue & groove which is painted in the same colour as the dog bed which is very similar to the Burford colour! It's a good combo. I painted the ceiling timeless too to save the hassle of having to cut in to the edges.

The timeless has been on the walls for almost 6 years Blush but doesn't look grubby - bathroom used mostly by DCs.

PorkyandBess · 02/07/2012 22:37

We're getting Burford Grey too!

Thought we were being so original as well! Confused

I think we'll go for one of the F&B whites, but may change my mind.

Pannacotta · 03/07/2012 09:27

amazonian we have a plan at last, just need to work out the building work and order of play as we need to bash a few walls around so it will be messy....

Hope your project comes together....

amazonianwoman · 04/07/2012 09:59

Exciting stuff. Have you decided on a kitchen supplier/worktop style/flooring yet?

sheeplikessleep · 04/07/2012 15:26

We've decided to go for this colour...

I am going to need photos of finished Burford Grey kitchens, so I can copy the paint I like best!

What worktop is everyone going for? We're having solid oak regretting it already

Fedupofbuilding · 17/07/2012 21:48

Sorry to jump in but I'm in the process of ordering a Burford Grey kitchen and just after some opinions on just how 'green' it actually ends up looking once fitted?

tiredemma · 17/07/2012 22:03

My inlaws have just had this kitchen fitted in their chalet in france.

I have put a pic on my profile- not very big - but might give some indication of their wall colour (if you have access to magnifying glass).

Basiletta · 07/04/2018 17:06

Having a Howdens Fairford Grey (new colour) installed with probably a white quartz worktop and am looking for ideas for wall colours please.
