OK so we have seen this house. For dp it was a bit 'meh' but I quite liked it and could see potential.

We are arranging to view this house which is £40K more.

They are in the same road, house B has a garage which dh needs as a workshop. My initial thoughts would be that you could add a shed with power and light to property A for about 5K and also think about an extension/ conservatory/ playroom in the future.
House A is obviously much more affordable but house B is nicer....

Prefer house b. They are totally different styles and periods and40k would do a lot but it still wouldn't be as nice!

I'm surprized at how much weight so many are giving to period features, its hardly a quiant choc box cottage!

I would only let period features swing it for me if the houses were equally functional and equally priced. I think they got it a bit wrong with house Bs extension and made the downstairs a bit awkward! thing is if you were to rectify that you've ALREADY paid for it once and you have to pay again, wheras with A, its livable, has a much nicer dining room than B which may make the kitchen less important to some, and if you wanted to you have the cash to do a MUCH better extension or re-arrange than they did in B.

I'ld rather live for a while in a house that wasn't extended yet, than in one that was but it was done (IMO) WRONG as it would just annoy me!

Still think the paint colour in B is nice, get it for A! Wink

I don't like teh decor in either! Just think once sorted house b would be nicer

I think A too. I can see the attraction of house B, but they both have small third bedrooms so that shouldn't really be a decider. And the extended kitchen isn't that much bigger in house B. House A is slightly less pretty but still 'period' and could be prettied up quite a bit if you wanted to. Could also knock down the wall between the kitchen and dining room and make a lovely big family space for far less than the cost of an extension.

Think house B's dining room would be really dark as almost internal and north facing.

DamselInDisgrace · 11/06/2012 15:48

The dinning table they've dressed the dining room in B with is a bit laughable. The room looks really big until you consider that it's a tiny table to seat 2.

The owners of house A should almost certainly get the EA to retake the photos. It's like they're trying to make it look as bad as possible.
