Budleigh Salterton - good place to live?

Would you live in Budleigh Salterton? What's it like? What's the commute like to Exeter, is the traffic bad? Is there enough here for a very young family: good play group, nice parks, etc??

It's a lovely place to live and I fully plan to live there in my retirement. That however is the intention of many and you will have to have a great love of the ageing generation to live there. But it is a great place to bring up kids, there is a thriving local community and lots of open outdoors space...and in about 25 years time you'll finally be accepted as one of the locals! Re the commute to Exeter well there are 2 possible routes both of which get pretty clogged up and worse in summer. But its a small price to pay for living somewhere so beautiful.

Hi. I agree with Ruby22. My MIL lives here and it is a very beautiful place. Very, very safe with lots of things to do nearby. (we spend a lot of time at Exmouth crabbing and building sandcastles!) However, it is a place where many come to retire and whilst it is fantastic for this I'm not too sure about what it is like for people with a young family.

There is a skatepark (which is well used) and a play area near to the beach which is good (not huge) and there is lots of outdoor space. I have a 2yr and 4yr who are happy to spend hours throwing stones into the sea and ride their scooters along the seafront! We visit Budleigh on a regular basis and we do see young families out and about at the weekend so I suspect there must be some play groups around.

In terms of commute it would be ok until you get near to Exeter. Then it can be a bit of a nightmare like most places.

Having said all the above if my husband could get a job in Exeter we would move to Budleigh Salterton in an instant! Absolutely love the place. We also fully intend to retire there!

Can I just ask did you move to Budleigh Salterton in the end and if so, what are your thoughts? I have to make a decision about moving there asap and I'm in a dilemma! Thanks!
