Come and talk to me about Loughton/Woodford/Buckhurst Hill...

Just that really. Had a little drive round there today and a walk on the forest and it seemed lovely. DH works in East London so tube to Bethnal Green would be ideal.

Schools in particular... We'd be aiming for a good secondary, preferably state but possibly private.

TIA! [busmile]

journey from Loughton and Buckhurst hill are quite a bit longer than from Woodford. Don't be misled by the tube map.

Lots of Edwardian and Victorian houses with big gardens available, though packing in new houses and flats is taking up the space.

Ah, that's interesting. Loughton felt much more out of London. We're a way off moving but a quick look on rightmove seems to show you get more for your money the further out you go...

If we leave where we are now it'll be mostly for schools tbh. Thanks PigletJohn .

Buckhurst Hill is fantastic! It's right on the Central Line. Everything is walkable: your doctor, dentist, post office, Waitrose, coffee shop, library, restaurants, community centre. The primary schools are excellent, both St. John's and Buckhust Hill Primary. The secondary schools are good if you regularly attend church on Sunday. There is Trinity (catholic) and Davenant (non-denominational). Otherwise, your state school would be Roding Valley. Average academics, not very diverse, oversubscribed. Three very respectable Public Schools are in easy Striking distance: Bancrofts (Woodford Green), Chigwell (Chigwell) and Forest (Snaresbrook). There are also the grammar schools Woodford County girls and Ilford Boys school. Both these schools have reputations for being very academically aggressive and difficult to get into.
