Anyone care to inspire me for re decorating downstairs toilet?

We have a small room that leads into a second room that has a toilet and sink. The first room has a row of hanging with cupboards about and shoe space at the bottom. On the opposite was is a mirror. The toilet itself has very tiny cube shaped tiles as a splash back and they are a mix of earthy colours. The flooring is amtico wood.

The walls are currently just neutral which i like but it is being painted on monday because the hanging/storage unit has just been built leaving holes to be filled etc from the old set up and we have some cracks in the toilet.

But, the big question is do we do it agin neutral of are we brave and actually put some colour in there. The back of the house is open plan and fairly neutral with just one feature wall. The front of the house has colour in just the small lounge which is teal. The study has some gold/deep red/brown colours.

So, shall we be boring and safe or brave and adventurous??

Why not have a look on Houzz.com? They've got some wonderful examples of dramatic designs for loos there - although it's a US site, so you may have to work out the right word to search for!

Pannacotta · 15/03/2012 22:52

Go bold, a downstairs loo is the perfect place for this.

Orange
not joking
orange highlights will make the room wake up!

sasamunde · 15/03/2012 23:07

I am going to wallpaper my new downstairs toilet either with old CD covers or pages from Alice in Wonderland

mckenzie · 16/03/2012 08:54

thank you very much - off to browse now. I quite like the look of some of the wacky wall paper but we have a rogue's gallery in the toilet bit and I'm not sure the photos would then look right on top of loud paper. I'm not good at this sort of thing.

If you have photos then why not have a dark wall paint and hang the pics on this, the dark colour will set off the photos nicely.
WIll see if I cna find a link...

Pannacotta · 16/03/2012 09:34

If ou scroll down this link you will see some photos of a very chic loo painted in dark grey, that could look great I think

Alphafemale · 16/03/2012 09:52

I think you should be brave and do it in a colour you love. You can always change it!

mckenzie · 16/03/2012 09:58

thanks again - you guys are great! Will dark grey be ok in a small roomy though? I would I'd do the other walls just off white?
DH has suggested an orangey colour!!

Be brave and paint it all in one colour, much classier.
Dark grey looks fantastic in a small room, very atmospheric.
The last link is a good example I think.

just come back from our local paint wallpaper independent design shop.

There are some fab wallpapers out there for feature walls. if you're interested, check out www.mrperswall.com.
I've rather fallen in love with Charlottes something or other, a Farrow and Ball paint. If DH likes it then i might have to see if I can find a Crown or Homebase own copy Grin

A friend has this in her loo. Looks great.

Mine sounds almost exactly like your set-up. I have just had it painted in Mango Melody 4.

I wanted an orangey shade but couldn't find any I liked. Mango Melody is Not Orange - do not believe the blurb - it is actually pink.
But it's a soft pink and it's nice. But I did want a nice pale terracotta and couldn't find one.

Can't bring myself to wish the OP luck finding what I couldn't

mckenzie · 18/03/2012 08:25

thank you for the replies. I like that paper spotty but it's not what we had in mind.
Auntie, I like those Mango shades. This is appealing to me as well.

Is this what you had in mind?

Auntiestablishment · 18/03/2012 08:35

No, that's too bright .

I wanted the colour that the Mango Melody comes up on screen, ideally. It's just not that colour out of the tin.

mckenzie · 18/03/2012 09:21

I'm glad you don't like it Smile (for your sake of course)

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 18/03/2012 09:44

sorry but that marigold colour looks like newborn baby poo!

mckenzie · 19/03/2012 17:34

Really? I don't think I've ever seen new born baby poo that colour.

Maybe the colour on the website doesn't do it justice. I'm going to order it anyway, which is most unlike me as I am normally such a wimp that I would have chickened out after that comment. Fingers cross I'm not making a big mistake Smile
