Not stealth boast I promise but FFS 700k and cant find what we want

Disclaimer: I know £700k is a fortune to spend on a house outside of London, but this is our budget and we are struggling to find what we want in London.

We want London north of the river or suburbs of London (because of where we both work), either a natural 4 bedder (not loft converted) or a 3 bed we can do a loft conversion on, but would need to then be more like 600k in that case. I want a garden. I want at least 3 of the bedrooms to be doubles. I want good space downstairs (I really want a utility room, or space to add one).

Am I being unrealistic? The sort of house in the sort of area we want seems to be more like 850k and we cannot stretch to that. Am willing to look at areas outside if London but close. North or West of the city preferably.

Where have you looked? You should be able to get something in Ealing for that sort of money. The closer to the centre, the more ££ IME

AngryFeet · 18/10/2011 10:48

Can you give a vague idea of where in London - it is a pretty big place!

AngryFeet · 18/10/2011 10:51

This one?

RetroBeeyatch · 18/10/2011 10:52

So far we have looked North - Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Alexandra Palace, Finchley, cheaper bits of Highgate, edging towards Southgate - then NW/W - Willesden Green, Kensal Rise, Cricklewood, Kilburn, Dollis Hill.

Havent looked at Ealing yet, but that is next on the list. Need to be on tube if poss.

Wanstead? Snaresbrook? South Woodford?

RetroBeeyatch · 18/10/2011 10:53

I realise we are going to probably be looking at a suburb rather than the Kilburn-ish end of things, because of the space we want. Would prefer a semi detached if poss, too.

Angry that is very close to what we are looking for. Hmmm. DH grew up in Acton and is very snotty about it, but may have to persuade him to reconsider...

Thanks, btw!

Am disgusted, Essex is lovely - we moved here from SE london 5 years ago and it is the best thing we have done - DH actually gets into the city faster and the two schools are fab, both outstanding.

We are selling our house by he way [hgrin]

RedRuby - love Crouch End. Love it. But havent found what we want so far there.

Lovely house you linked to, but in Clapton! Not keen. Lived 'round there for years and once had my living room window taken out by a stray bullet. Grimbo.

Sorry, sorry, sorry@Madame Grin

Your house is lovely, btw! Love the garden, too.

I just can't let go of London, yet. Maybe one day.....

See looking at all these houses they would cost about £500k or less where I live and the train ride to London is 15 mins. Personally I would come out of London a bit and get more house for your money. I live in Croydon (I know I know but the bit I am in is nice and is considered to be Surrey, has good schools etc).

Gorgeous

Anyway obviously there are lots more places in good commutable distance from London, just giving an example :)

RosiethePriveter · 18/10/2011 11:02

Have you tried N19? Archway / Tufnell Park / Whitehall conservation area? I've just moved here from Highgate and managed to get a 4 bed house for approx your budget.

RedRubyBlue · 18/10/2011 11:07

I lived in Crouch Hill/Upper Holloway for a while and it can be quite rough. I avoided Archway underground like the plague, that is one place not to be at night.

Orpington which is also a 15 min commute from London. There is a f*ing hottub in the garden for gods sake!

RosiethePriveter · 18/10/2011 11:12

How long ago was that? Have to say I used to walk home past Archway tube every night and have never had a problem or felt unsafe and I'm now not very far from it at all and we live on a really lovely quiet road with great neighbours. Although I can totally see where you are coming from. It's a bit more lively than some places, granted, but I like it.

If not keen on Archway then Tufnell Park / Kentish Town have nice places too.

Shakey1500 · 18/10/2011 11:12

They all have E postcodes! Still London ;)

RedRubyBlue · 18/10/2011 11:13

Stroud Green

Four double bedrooms and a utility room.

bamboostalks · 18/10/2011 11:22

You will get a fab hose in Southgate/Palmers Green for that.

chandellina · 18/10/2011 11:31

surprised you're not finding anything in Finchley for that. You'd do better down south (East Dulwich, Forest Hill) but sounds like not right for your needs.
