Where in the south can we rent a 4-bed house for under £1,000 a month?

Places you'd recommend. We moved to Chandler's Ford just over a year ago, and whilst we love it, I don't think we can really afford to live here. So looking for some suggestions of places we can afford. Thanks.

How south are you thinking? Because the south west is very cheap :) cornwall and devon are beautiful places...

Swindon. Not glam but affordable and good transport links.

We are in the SW and its not cheep at all, your average 3 bed is £800-(£900) so a 4 bed is over £1000 unless you want something falling down with no garden Grin.

I'm in Banbury - so the top of the south, and rent a 3 bed place for £640 a month - so thats another place that also is not glam, but affordable with great transport links between birmingham and london. Water rates and council tax are very cheap round here too - compared to my earlier suggestion of cornwall etc.

Marne - I was in Totnes and then Truro for a bit, and rented 3 bed places for under £650 but didn't have gardens with either house - so you're probably right. I had forgotten about the south west water rates too. a lot of places in Cornwall are very cheap, Redruth for example, but unemployment is also very high - which is why we moved further up north.

I live in a town near Brighton and we pay well over £1000 per month for just 3 beds.
Places like Hastings, Bexhill, Hailsham are quite a bit cheaper. Eastbourne is also nice and you can get some cheaper houses there.

our house in Kent (a nice part, not far from Tunbridge Wells) is rented out for less than £1000/month.

it is 4/5 bed, 3 reception, has a garden, and off street parking. judging by this thread, we should be reviewing that...

Take a look here. I live in wootton Bassett, and while Swindon is pretty grim (albeit with good transport links), you will get something in the surrounds for under £1000. I like living here Smile

worthing

EggyAllenPoe · 21/07/2011 18:48

in actual fact, i'm pretty sure tthere's much more choice than that in the Worthing area than found on rightmove..though there aren't that many 4 bed houses at all,

EggyAllenPoe · 21/07/2011 18:52

there are more than that!

Fareham (20 minutes down M27) - Andover (30 Mins other direction) - IOW (Might not be convenient for work) - Some parts of the New Forest - Hythe - Romsey - Eastleigh (at a push). Don't know if you can go further out for work, but I would live in any of those locations (have a house in Eastleigh) apart from IOW and that would be because of the travel to the main land.
