If you were doing DIY in preperation to put house on market how would you rank these jobs?

Repainting dark woodstained windows versus investing in new PVC jobbies?

Replacing 4' fence with 6' fence. (Fence panels def need replacing, posts probably OK but only 4')

How much is the quality of decor scrutinised? My lounge def needs tidying up, trying to work out whether to skimp and just re-emulsion walls which obviously need doing and leave gloss work which is 95% OK apart from main entrance doorway is a bit bumped.

how much is the house worth? to be honest, I think that i would repaint windows and only replace if there was specific feedback that this was a problem. in one house we replaced the downstairs windows (were falling out of frames) with cheap double glazing and repainted the upstairs.

You can get post extender brackets- but not sure if these cost as much as new posts by the time you have faffed about. does the garden need a 6 foot fence?

if gloss is alright, leave it, i cant see many scrutinising skirting.

House is worth £135-140K ish. Not had it valued yet - just going by similar properties on the market.

I don't want to pay a decorator to come and paint outside of windows if I am going to end up replacing them 6m down the line. I could paint the downstairs myself (which are the obvious bits that need doing) and see how we go from there.

TBH I guess I was asking was would it sell better with 6 foot panels (more privacy)? We have 6 foot on 2 sides (I am not responsible for those) and 4 foot plus trellis on the other - which needs replacing. I think it makes the garden look a bit bigger not to be fully enclosed...but what is better being fully enclosed and looking smaller or being overlooked and looking more spatious?

Skirting is fine. Tis just a couple of teh door frames which are a bit ropey.

I hate to see a garden completely enclosed in 6ft panels, so I'd replace your 4ft ones with trellis with the same.

Defiitely paint the window frames rather than replace them! Replacement windows would be a huge investment now, and its unlikely to be a deal breaker to a potential purchaser. And an awful lot of people HATE upvc windows.

I would paint the window frames - not everyone wants PVC and the price will reflect what you have (you'd expect more if you spent out on the windows wouldn't you).

Fence - hard to say without seeing it - what can you do to make it look solid without spending too much?

Gloss - just do the couple of ropey door frames.

Main thing I think it is to declutter and de-personalise it a lot! This may mean getting some cheap storage for a bit if you don't have friends or family who can store it for you - but I think it's by far the best way to sell a house quickly - that and letting as much light into the house as you can.
