On the thread in chat I see that large limestone tiles are now reaching the end of their trend.

What else should I avoid and what should I favour in my quest to have an ultra contemporary bathroom (which will of course date immediately )

Those horrid fitted toilet/sink/storage combos in fake wood. Beige, stay away from beige.

plastic sides on baths. they scratch really easily.

all that cocking beige has to meet its comeuppance soon,.

micro-mosaic. a bugger to clean all that grout.

i predict the return of the low-level WC, they flush better than close-coupled ones.

Vessel sinks, surely

What's a vessel sink?? And is that in or passe? Sounds passe the way you've written it there 7to25

Keep seeing rubber type floors, some with unusual textures. Don't know if i like them or not!

I like rubber floors - they is definitely still cool.

A vessel sink is a large glass/ceramic fruitbowl balanced on a vanity unit. They will really date a bathroom in a couple of years. A fad.

Agreed 7to25. Some of them are alright, but a few look a lot like those sinks dentists have, that you spit the funny coloured water into.

OK, so we're thinking bright colours (no beige), statement floors, sinks that are proper sinks, no mosaics and no fake wood.

And avocado.

We're doing our bathroom atm, we're pretty limited budget wise so going for white simple suite, think we're going for a plain white padded vinyl floor from rhinofloor, paint walls white, then have coloured bathmat/blind/towells etc.

Am hoping this will work, and that i can fairly cheaply change the accessories when get sick of them, obviously can't change the tiles as easily.

I reckon cork floors are going to make a comeback at some point!

(Actually, I lived in a rented house with a cork floored bathroom and loved it - easy to clean, warm, comfy, looked ok)

The only thing I'd say about your bathroom Pootles is that although will will look lovely and clean and modern, the white floor will be a nightmare to maintain - you'll see every hair that falls out of your head & you won't believe how many hairs you lose. Would go for a coloured floor and save yourself the agony - unless you have OCD cleaning tendencies anyway.

I think a white suite keeps looking good for longer than any fashionable colour. It's easy to change the effect with strong colours of towels and blinds.

Chrome taps with a capstan and easy-clean dome is simplest to use or maintain, and most practical. Gold plate or brass get shabby and need a lot more care. Same goes for towel rails, soap dishes etc.

Ceramic taps and mixers create more plumbing problems than simple bib taps. So do cisterns with a press-button in the middle of the lid.

Those silly ladder-like bathroom radiators are going to look very dated soon.

hmm i did consider that disparity. I would say maybe a beigy limestoney but now this thread's put me off that!

Getting better at cleaning etc but def not OCD!

Even though I don't like beige - it's more the wall to wall beige limestone tiling. I think I'd choose beige flooring over white. If your walls & tiling are white then your room will still look crisp and modern and your floor will be fine. I think I'd going for a mid grey.

I think that Piglet John is being depressingly practical about things. Who ever heard of fashion being dependent on whether or not something leads to plumbing problems.

I agree Grendel - your home needs personality - choosing the least unique items for fear that something might date, will lead to boring house now and in 10 years time.

Plumbing problems with our current bathroom have led to the remarkably stylish water marks down the newly replastered and repainted dining room walls :)

I just re-did my bathroom, its lush, but my gorgeous new bath was SO slippery that my kids were sliding all over the place! Have now found some non slip bath stickers that you can put of the bottom of the bath (or shower tray if thats what you get). They are like a textured white circle shaped sticker and you can hardly see them when they are in the bath. Might be worth a thought as DS1 nearly cracked his head before we got it sorted! Bless em.
