Have quite a big hallway which at moment is painted a mid beige colour, hasnt been done for 5 years so needs doing now.Have a lovely 2 year old who has left her little handmarks all over it.Love neutral light colours but afraid of it getting grubby quite quickly.
Have cream tiles so anything would match really, any suggestions??

upstairs magnolia, downstairs these dreadful wood veneer panelling that we really really need to do something about but keep not getting round to!!

I like Farrow and Ball string for more of a beigey neutral.

lucky4 · 03/04/2011 14:41

Do love magnolia!

Mine is beautiful builders' magnolia, same as the rest of the house.

I fancy changing it but terrified of ballsing it up and making it look 80sish try-hard or too dark. Watching thread for tips.

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/04/2011 14:57

Currently a primrose yellow, but I think I preferred the dove grey it used to be.

ashleysmum · 03/04/2011 15:02

mine is currenty magnollia with highlights of crayon (Various colours)

its a good look honest!

purepurple · 03/04/2011 15:54

lilac
Was there when we moved in.
I need a new colour too.

randomimposter · 03/04/2011 16:43

My old house was F&B Dorset Cream - was lovely in all lights. It's a yellowy cream.
Am renting at the mo - this one is Grubby Beige - not so keen...

HansDatdoodishes · 03/04/2011 16:52

Buttermilk. Does get manky from my mucky children but I bought a small extra tin to paint over the worst bits!

lucky4 · 03/04/2011 16:56

Been looking at colour charts(must be getting old!!)and I so like the pale colours,I genuinely love magnolia, linen and cotton cream by dulux are nice too.The problem is trying to keep it clean, got courtyard cream in kitchen and its so grubby on area near lightswitch, infact its grubby anywhere near my 2 year olds height!
The beige I have now is sienna by dulux and I thought it would hide marks but no they still show, but defo want something lighter this time, decisions, decisions!!

Sort of very pale pinky lilac. Nicer than it sounds. I think the correct name is Rose Mallow. We used washable paint.

MooMooFarm · 03/04/2011 16:59

Ours is 'Biscotti' - a kind of goldy-beige, which probably looks like magnolia if you don't know it's not!

I've tried yellows, golds, darker beiges and duck egg blue - in the end I always go back to boring old cream of some sort because it just looks fresh & bright and doesn't clash with other rooms when you look through to the hallway, IYSWIM.

HansDatdoodishes · 03/04/2011 17:00

You can buy sponge things for wiping walls that clean up the grubby marks around switches brilliantly. I have completely forgotten what they are called. But they are white foam sort of things, and clean all the dirt but don't take the paint off.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/04/2011 17:13

They're Magic Erasers. I think most superamrkets sell them. They really do work but unfortunately once you start you need to to the whole wall. Sad

I have Farrow's Cream in my HSL and it's beautiful.

Hulababy · 03/04/2011 17:15

Ours are all white.

DooinMeCleanin · 03/04/2011 17:18

Is undecorated a colour? Or bare plaster? Blush

It's at the bottom of a very long to-do list atm. It will be magnolia with red carpet one day. Soon(ish) I hope

southeastastra · 03/04/2011 17:19

i have one airforce blue wall with a great big mirror on it. rest is magnolia (dull but easy to touch up)

lucky4 · 03/04/2011 17:25

Your halls all sound nice!Hulababy..white is so modern but how do you keep it clean?
Never heard of those magic eraser thingys but will lookout for them.
I have got washable paint in hallway now but found it useless to be honest..anytime I scrubbed off marks you could see where I scrubbed..made it worse and drove me mad!

Mine is in a Dulux heritage off-white and it is lovely. They do a fantastic range of neutrals. The one I've got is Ochre White and it changes colour with the light and can look as if it has a green tinge to it. In bright sunlight it looks quite creamy.

With regard to keeping it clean, I can really recommend Dulux Diamond Matt paint. It is super tough and you can scrub it without removing the colour. I've removed navy blue market pen from mine and no colour loss.

I think you'd have to go to a trade supplier, like a Brewers or something as I'm not sure if Homebase can mix the Diamond Matt. Definitely worth it.
