Shrewsbury or Ludlow to live?

My husband is changing jobs and we are planning to move to Shropshire. Although I have visited both Shrewsbury and Ludlow, I still haven't got a real feel for the places. Has anyone lived in either and can give me any more info? p.s we have a 16 month old daughter so will be needing schools/nurseries at some point. Thanks in advance

I've been following the posts with interest - it's been incredibly useful as we're also thinking of
moving to Shrewsbury or Ludlow. We visited Ludlow today and it was such an amazing town. Had a really lovely feel to it but the houses near the town
didn't look too great. Can anyone advise on the nicer areas in Ludlow and the places to avoid? We have a 2 yr old and a 9 week old so nursery and school info would also be very useful.

Thank you in advance

victoria.

One thing I have noticed in south and mid Shropshire is that some small areas seem to generate a price premium of 10-20% for a reason that even the agents cannot explain!

The area NE of Ludlow is one so might be something to be aware of.

Avoid Craven Arms.

Clun is far cheaper if you don't mind the travelling.

Harlescott and Ditherington in Shrewsbury are dire, as are parts of the Telford Estate in Monkmoor. I've lived just off the Mounts in Copthorne (nice), Greenfields (decent sized houses for not bad prices), town centre (noisy, especially during the flower show), Longden Coleham, which is okay and Monkmoor which I wasn't so keen on, although Underdale Road is nice. Castlefields has a good community feel there, and Martin Wilson Primary school was good when my son was there many years ago!

Thank you the visitor - we're hoping to visit Shrewsbury over the next few weekends so your advice is really useful thank you :-)

Hello , we are looking to move to Shrewsbury next year .
We have done lots of research but would appreciate any advice on villages you’d recommend for maybe to view as so many .
Me & hubby are in our late 50s and have children over the age of 18 plus .
Any advice would seriously be appreciated. Smile

Lots of villages to choose from Kaz. Can you give us a rough budget and wishlist of things you want from the place, doctors, pubs, local shops etc?

Roughly 280k don't mind a nice village with a few amenities. Pub would be nice. Wink

@Ormirian

I had forgotten about the Shakespeare! Went to see Richard III when I was at school. Prefect setting.
I think they’ve stopped it now… used to go most years Smile

Just realised it’s a 2011 thread, which explains that… Hmm

Shakespeare stopped in 2014. Swimming pool outdoor demolished in 1990s.

Still looking at towns, villages in Shropshire to move to but can't decide but Ludlow seems to come out tops. Any help with deciding?
