Any families live near Canary Wharf?

Hi there,

I'm a Daddy have a job interview in Canary Wharf shortly. I don't fancy commuting two hours per day (each way) to where I live and am toying with the idea of living right in the centre of London with my wife and four kids (sorry I can't talk the mumsnet lingo).

Areas I'm considering are:

  • Isle of Dogs itself somewhere south of Canary Wharf
  • Bermondsey (near Canada Water tube)
  • Greenwich

I can afford up to £600 per week and would like a 4/5 bedroom place. Am I totally raving mad to consider this? I thought it would be great for the family to experience London and all the culture that it offers. However I don't want to be stabbed/mugged/burgled/intimidated by chavs or yobbos.

Would love to hear from someone with a family that actually lives in these areas. We would likely home-ed and not send the kids to the local schools.

Thanks a bunch Mummies!

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm in the same boat now so interested!

You might be pushing it to get a 4-5 bed in any of those locations, sorry. My 2 bed flat in Greenwich would let for nearly £2k a month.
Try Hither Green (VERY family oriented). More down at heel (but on the edge of Greenwich, try Lewisham (there are some nice bits!), which is on the DLR route and would take you direct to Canary Wharf in 15 min
