Southampton Airport Noise in Eastleigh/Chandlers Ford/Winchester?

Hi We're seriously considering relocating to that region to be an hour out of London, good schools, affordable property, kids stuff, near the coast etc etc

Just wondering if Southampton Airport noise is a problem around there.

We're used to quite a bit of aircraft and helicopter noise living in London but I'm just wondering if it's a particular problem down there? Any areas particularly to avoid?

Thanks Smile

Not really conscious at all in Winchester, I suppose it might be a bit more noticeable in Eastleigh but it's not a hugely busy airport and it closes overnight so I wouldn't worry too much. Take a look at the website but think there wouldn't be more than 4 per hour. It's a lovely area to live in, go for it!

i work in eastleigh, chandlers ford and have never noticed it before. I would say that CF and eastleigh are very close to rail line, motorway, and its never felt like a peaceful area to live in, and not one i particularly like. there are much nicer areas to live in round there.

thanks for that - that's really helpful.

herhonesty - a few people have recommended chandlers ford so have been looking and really like the look of a school there, but when looking at the map I've been a little bit worried about the motorway as well as airport!

We're just looking for somewhere nice that is not too expensive, that has nice schools and has easy access to a station that is on the waterloo line. A bit of life in the place preferable too so that my growing kids don't get bored.

Relocating is stressful! Any help really appreciated Smile

i'd definitely start with winchester and move outwards. is waterloo a daily commute or occasional?

I lived under the flight path in St Denys for the last year. I spent the summer convinced the planes overhead where about to crash into the house they were that loud, and the 6AM flight aways woke us up. Not such a problem in winter with windows closed. We have moved now and no planes overhead is bliss.

However I have lived all over Southampton and never really noticed the planes before. It's really not a problem at all unless you are under the flight path I think.

It is wonderful being so close to the motorways though. I live five mins from the M27 but you wouldn't have a clue, it's so quiet.

We've been looking around the area and Winchester is very pricey but you get all the amenities and it is a lovely place to live. Otterbourne, Chandlers Ford and Colden Common (to name a few) will give you alot more house for your money but not as handy for the station, and probably not quite as much going on. Chandlers ford is pretty big and I'm sure has quiet areas so worth a trip down and a look for sure.

Well Winchester is beautiful and ideal for shopping/community/commuting wise (yes it's a daily commute for DH into waterloo) but we are just totally priced out of there for what we would want!

i think we'll keep on with Chandlers Ford - and aim to be as far away from the motorway as possible. DH will have to get a scooter or something and go to Eastleigh station!

what about around the basingstoke, winchfield, fleet area?

I live in Woolston and the planes go up the river Itchen, never notice the noise even though can see the planes from my living room.

The planes arn't huge and in eastleigh you won't notice it much as it is more near the M27.
