Cheapest way to send a package to the USA

I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I'd like to save a bit of money on this!

What is the cheapest way I can send a 1400g small package to the USA. It can't go surface...not enough time now. The PO says about £17!

I don't think you'll get it any cheaper by airmail, unfortunately.

You could still try your luck with surface mail. I use it regularly to send parcels back to NZ and often they end up going airmail anyway and getting there in a week.
