I need to book one night on a specific mid-week date, at one of two nearby hotels. Is there any way I can find a discount or offer? The hotels won't give me any discount directly.

You could try expedia.com or bookings.com or any of the hotel booking websites to see if they can offer a better deal.

Tripadvisor is a good place to start, search to find the hotel then they will bring up all the booking websites that offer that hotel and you can see who is the cheapest.

I just tried tripadvisor - everything offered was either the same as or more expensive than directly through the hotel!
