Thanks very much, have done this too!

Hulababy · 31/07/2008 10:05

Thank you

Have ordered my rail card. Now sorting the YHA one - never been to one before, but you never know.

Alambil · 31/07/2008 10:06

me too hula - I think it'll be handy to have, especially as it hasn't costed anything!

I rang about the "family" issue - it's fine. Open to everyone - they meant to put "up to a value of" but forgot the "up to" bit [rolls eyes]

Fimbo · 31/07/2008 10:36

Thanks Lewis have just applied for the railcard - already have YHA membership but only paid £10 for it thanks to MN.

Cheers, glad you got your YHA membership too!

cmotdibbler · 31/07/2008 10:42

Ooh great, have done railcard, but will wait till tomorrow to do YHA so that it will be till the end of August next year.

Rhubarbstalkingarsehole · 31/07/2008 10:49

I was just looking up how much a railcard would cost last night, I was contemplating visiting my sister but thought the cost too high.

Now I've just bought one for £12! Cheers guys!

WilfSell · 31/07/2008 11:04

Thank you so much for this info: have done it.

kiwibella · 31/07/2008 11:25

brilliant... thanks!

LynetteScavo · 31/07/2008 16:57

Just bumping, as I was so happy about this

Fimbo · 31/07/2008 16:59

4 of us can go on the train to London for £67 return, thanks to the rail card.

Laugs · 31/07/2008 17:01

Does anyone know if it's worthwhile using a Family Railcard and buying a child's ticket, even if the child is under 5?

Helsbels4 · 31/07/2008 19:14

Hi Laugs, I travelled to Brighton with my brother and DD who is 3yrs a couple of weeks ago (it's about 30 miles away) and I used mine. Even though it meant paying £1 for her as opposed to nothing, it meant that we got a few pounds off our fares. Every little helps and all that

Tatties · 31/07/2008 22:43

Thanks LewisFan! Just ordered my railcard and will call YHA tomorrow

sylvev · 31/07/2008 23:54

Got my railcard & YHA membership thanks to mumsnetters last week and took DD and DS to London for 2 days. Train return cost £28, from Worcs, for all of us and YHA £65, overlooking St Pauls).
Had a great time, although YHA room was of dolls house proportions and hostel noisy, but all part of the adventure! Some of the hostels in the brochure look really nice, shall definitely use again.

Fimbo · 01/08/2008 09:53

Couldn't believe it when I opened my mail this morning - the railcard was there! I wasn't expecting it until at least next week, can use it on my hols now.

Thank you so much LewisFan.

Hulababy · 01/08/2008 09:59

Wow Fimbo, that was fast!

I was just wondering when they might arrive as I'd like to go out with DD next Thursday. Looks like we might have it int ime!

elkiedee · 01/08/2008 10:22

Laugs, yes, it often is. Leeds to Ilkley for two adults is over £6, we pay a minimum of £1 for 15 month old ds but save a third of each of our tickets so we still save more than £1. And they've extended the discount to cheap Apex tickets now - for London to Leeds we saved more than £10 and got 3 seats round a table. Plus you get seat reservations - I used to get ds cheap tickets from a few months for Leeds tickets for that reason alone.

Hulababy · 01/08/2008 20:09

Mine arrived today too - now that is good service! Already booked tickets using it, for next Thursday.

Laugs · 02/08/2008 12:45

Great, thanks
