shelleylou · 09/07/2008 19:34

its family and friends railcard now think its up to 4 adults and 4 children that can travel at once

katz · 09/07/2008 21:23

mine arrived today -so def works!

tatty33 · 13/07/2008 18:12

Does anyone know if this is worth getting with an 18 month old i.e you get the discount even if you don't pay for a ticket for them?

sylvev · 14/07/2008 14:36

Thanks Nora, just got mine! Brilliant offer

TooTicky · 14/07/2008 14:37

Yes Tatty33, it is worth it.

TooTicky · 14/07/2008 14:38

You still buy the child a ticket, but it works out cheaper than one adult travelling alone.

edam · 14/07/2008 15:29

Thanks Nora! Brilliant timing as ds is five on Friday so we have to start paying. AND the YHA membership will come in jolly handy.

nametaken · 14/07/2008 17:21

thank you Nora, mine came Saturday I have have just rang and organised my YHA membership. It really is a great deal and you don't get many of those these days

tatty33 · 14/07/2008 19:53

Thanks Tooticky, will try and get one now

QueenoftheWildThings · 17/07/2008 21:41

Thanks for this Nora, I've now got my family railcard and my YHA membership through - bargain!

blithedance · 18/07/2008 10:29

If you buy a ticket for 18mo you get a reserved seat for them too. Better than having them sit on your lap for 4 hours, especially with 3 or 4 year olds.

Purplepillow · 18/07/2008 10:47

I've just ordered one. How long do they take to come through??

MarsLady · 18/07/2008 10:49

The great thing is that once you have one (via these promotions) they keep giving you good deals on them when you renew.

Purplepillow · 19/07/2008 10:22

Omg my railcard has arrived this morning

I cannot believe how fast it has been, even faster than the trains

edam · 19/07/2008 10:24

I've got my railcard and YHA membership now, so thank you, Nora! Very grateful as dh has been off work sick since before Christmas so I didn't think we would manage to get away this year (although I was lucky enough to win a weekend away the organisers are being arses and haven't sorted it out yet).

Just getting this in Threads I'm On...

elkiedee · 21/07/2008 23:33

I got a Family Railcard as soon as ds was born, and always get him a ticket - it's cheaper even with one adult but definitely with two, as you save more on your own ticket than you pay for the child, and travelling with dp we can now get 3 of the 4 seats round a table if we book in time. Also railcard discounts are now available on even Apex fares, they didn't used to be, we've just brought DS to see my mum for £30.40 London to Leeds return (2 adults, one 14 month old), whereas two adult tickets at that rate would have cost over £40.

If you don't have kids at the moment and live in the south east, you might be able to get discounts on off peak journeys for you (and adult(s) travelling with you on the same journey) with a Network Railcard - dp's one for visiting his mum in Norfolk cost £20 last year and it saves nearly £10 a return day trip (a third) so long as he sets out after 10 am.

Just applied for the Family & Friend Rail Card. The code worked for me and I was charged £12. Fantastic
