I switched over to Octopus Energy in February 2022 after running the numbers and working out that their Flexible tariff was slightly cheaper than my previous provider (Shell). This is because they give a 4% discount on standing charges.

I did the switch over the phone as I have an Eco 7 meter and wanted to have a flat rate, rather than the Eco 7 rate. They did this for me on the phone and were very helpful. I just needed to contact them once my account was up and running to ask them to apply the referral credit to my account. It was a very smooth process.
They also have a Tracker tariff which currently has a 6 month waiting list, that tracks the actual daily wholesale price of energy. If you switch to this tariff you'll need to keep an eye on it, as prices fluctuate daily. You can switch to the price cap tariff the next day.
