Co-Op Bank are currently doing an offer where if someone with an existing Co-Op Bank account refers you, and then you switch a bank account to them, deposit £800, set up 2 direct debits and make 5 card payments, you get £125 cashback. This is essentially free money for simply filling in a couple of forms and doing some very basic banking tasks. Note you don't actually have to switch your main bank account - you can make a brand new account with a different bank and switch that instead - you will still qualify!
I've seen people talk about this offer, but there seems to be some confusion about how you actually go about doing it, with people asking for referral links and codes. However this is not the case! No referral link or codes are required. You just need to know the details of someone with a Co-Op bank account and follow the steps below;
1) Apply for a standard current account with Co-Op bank, and request a full switch from another bank as part of this. If you don't want to switch your main bank account to them it's no issue; Instead you can set up a dummy account elsewhere (I'd recommend Starling as you can set up an account with them relatively quickly, though most UK bank accounts will do!) and then complete the switch with that. Make a note of your confirmed switch date - you will need this for later!
2) Wait for a confirmation email or letter confirming your account is open.
3) Submit the referral form on Co-Op Bank's refer a friend websitehttps://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/products/bank-accounts/refer-a-friend/ with your Co-Op Bank account details and the details of whoever referred you. Note you can submit the referral form at any point after you receive your account open letter/email - you do not have to wait until after your switch occurs or you fulfill all the eligibility criteria.
- Deposit £800, set up two direct debits (I'd recommend setting up two direct debits to charity for £1 a month) and make five card payments (which can be as much or as little as you like - I'd recommend topping up your amazon account with 5 x £1 payments).
- Wait until your switch completes. A day or two after this happens (and provided you have done all the parts of step 4) you should receive your £125.
And that is it! Barely an hour or two's work for £125. Co-op Bank hasn't said when this offer will end, but I can't imagine it will be around for terribly much longer so I'd recommend jumping on it before it disappears!
