Why pay for a bank account though? My dc just had the junior accounts at my bank and got a debit card with that

@RedHelenB the reason I signed up for the Rooster Card, rather than have a junior account for my dc, is it allows me to have more control while teaching her about handling money. Not all children, at any age, are ready for the full responsibility and this has proven to be a great step towards her full independence with money. There is no risk for them going overdrawn, I can set spending and withdrawal limits and also no purchases can be made at shops with an 18+ merchant code.

For those of us with kids who are not ready for the full responsibility of their own account and need a learning tool this has been great and I do recommend for any parent in a similar position with their DC.

For anyone with a Natwest or RBS account, like me, it is free for up to 3 cards/children so really is brilliant and I couldn't find a comparable, cheaper option even with its £1.99/month fee for non-Natwest/RBS customers.
