Co-Op Bank £125 Refer a Friend Guide

Co-Op Bank are currently doing an offer where if someone with an existing Co-Op Bank account refers you, and then you switch a bank account to them, you get £125 cashback (https://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/products/bank-accounts/refer-a-friend/). This is essentially free money for simply filling in a couple of forms!

I've seen a few posts bouncing around about the offer, but there seems to be some confusion about how you actually go about doing it, with people asking for referral links and codes. However this is not the case! No referral link or codes are required. You just need to know the details of someone with a Co-Op bank account and follow the steps below;

  1. Switch a bank account to Co-Op bank. If you don't want to switch your main bank account to them it's no issue; Instead you can set up a dummy account elsewhere (I'd recommend Starling as you can set up an account with them relatively quickly, though most UK bank accounts will do!) and then complete the switch with that. Unlike other bank account switching offers, there are no direct debit, deposit or cash balance requirements. You could literally switch a brand new bank account with only £1 in it and it'd still qualify. The only requirement is that the bank account takes part in the Current Account Switch Guarantee (https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/banks-building-societies/). Make sure you request a FULL not partial switch, as the latter does not qualify for the offer, and keep a note of your requested switch date - You will need this for later.

  2. Wait for your Co-Op Bank account to open and for you to receive your new bank details. This will take 2 or 3 working days. You should receive your account number and sort code by email.

  3. Fill out the form listed on Co-Op Bank's Refer a Friend website (https://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/products/bank-accounts/refer-a-friend/) with both the details of your new Co-Op bank account and the details of the person that referred you.

  4. You will then receive your £125 a day or two after your switch completes.

I have a Co-Op bank account, so if you need someone to refer you, I'm more than happy to do so - just send me a private message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible with all the necessary details.

Wtfisthis22 · 05/11/2023 17:27

I will PM you Pete. Still offering £50 as a thanks when switch goes through :)

Sclarke2117 · 05/11/2023 19:13

Hi

I will send you my details.

Thanks

Scott

TangerineFields · 05/11/2023 19:14

@Pete0222 - I would be very careful going with anyone that's offering money for signing up using their details. Look at previous comments on this post - several forum members have repeatedly found that people offering money do not pay.

OP posts:
Wtfisthis22 · 05/11/2023 19:16

Not me :) I’ve paid two people already. I think the offenders have now been banned.

TangerineFields · 05/11/2023 19:27

Unfortunately there are many scammers out there (several people on Mumsnet have been caught out already) and someone's word doesn't really go very far. The only way people can avoid being scammed themselves is to avoid people offering money for referrals completely.

OP posts:
Wtfisthis22 · 05/11/2023 19:31

Be as that may I think the referee does all the work and am happy to honour a payment to them of £50 personally or a charity of their choice. Ultimately either way the referee gets £125 so it’s entirely up to them!

TangerineFields · 05/11/2023 19:41

Funnily enough "the referee does all the work" is exactly the same reasoning the scammers on the other threads on Mumsnet used to con people out of their money.

OP posts:
Wtfisthis22 · 05/11/2023 19:56

In that case feel free to use my link for no extra money :) and then no risk of scam!

Humptydumptys · 05/11/2023 22:26

@TangerineFields Totally agree with you , these £50 extra offerings should be stopped so that all members can get fair share in referring people.

Financegeek · 03/12/2023 14:26

I’ve completed an application yesterday to open a new coop bank account and waiting for a sort code and account number to confirm my new account details.
not began any switch yet but I understand I need to do this within 60 days.
i am after a referrer who can provide their full name, email along with their coop sort and account number for £125 referral bonus.

This offer ends this Friday the 15th December! So long as you apply for a current account and request a switch before this date (irrespective of when your switch will actually take place) you will still be eligible for the offer.
