To want to try Gousto but feel confused

I’ve been looking through the ‘free box’ codes on the promotions/offers topic. It seems as if it isn’t actually a free box though?! It’s still good - 65% off first box. But I’m perplexed- am I doing it wrong?

Also, can I literally order that first box and then cancel? Haven’t got money to burn so really just want a quick bargain/ freebie!

I used a free code and it was literally that, free. No charge for food or delivery.

I did add £4 of desserts, so my card was charged for £4.

That was a temporary offer. But even with the 65% discount the first box is very very cheap.

Did you find the food good, on time etc?

@Lookingforbargains yes I found the food excellent to be honest! On the day of delivery you get a 1.5 hr time slot and you can track the courier - I love this!!!!
The food is well packaged and nice sized portions - even for my two strapping lads!
Its given me so much inspiration and re-inspired me to cook again!

I loved my free box and have booked for this week as it was 30% off. But I'm not sure if I can afford it every week without the discounts. But I wish I could!

I was wondering if I could sign DH up for the 65% off but we obviously have the same address.

The food has always been on time for me. I've never had a wrong ingredient. The recipes are easy to follow.

I was lucky and just got the free box. 65% is definitely still worth doing and the 30% for rest of month. I was really impressed with quality of ingredients although no meat as I’m veggie. Not sure if I’ll continue but looks easy enough to pause/cancel on app and the intro offer is worth it .

The one box I had, the quality was as good as I would pick if shopping.

SoMe of the recipes were nice but can obviously make cheaper.

I found it irritating that twice in a row we had rancid chicken. Put me off and didn't order again.

I really enjoyed the recipes we had. I was looking for some new recipes and a bit of inspiration so it was great. We have cooked the recipes again since

I wouldn't. I was duped by their free box offer which they couldn't honour. It then took me a very long time to cancel my subscription and I was deeply unimpressed with them as a company and won't ever go near them again.

I like it but portions far too small for my teens. Tiny chicken breast each doesn't fill them.

I’ve got my first box arriving next week so hoping it will give me a few new ideas

My free box didn't arrive, and apparently if it's due to arrive late, DPD just return to sender. I was given another free box credit but it does make me worry about the waste element - what happens to the fresh food which has been sent back? Do the pre packaged ingredients get re-sent back out?

@Ouch4321 My delivery driver said he's usually told to keep them for himself if undelivered

I got a free box, as soon as it was delivered I stopped my subscription. No charges,m no quibbles.

Two days later, I restarted it and am expecting box number three today (30% off for August boxes).

There are two of us, but I got the big box for four people, and haven't had to do any food shopping, other than milk and fruit, since! The food is delicious (we get the plant-based meals). We try each meal cooked for two, then the last three days of the week it's a mash-up of the ingredients we have left. Works really well for us.

Plus at least one free wooden spoon in each box so far! haha!

I would thoroughly recommend it, even when it goes to full price come September, we're looking at £50.75 a week, which is way cheaper than the weekly food shop was (and that was only going up!).

@Elsiid I find the same with the meat portions. We split a meal for 4 between me, DH and one teenager. Enjoy the meal, but wish there was more! Can't imagine it would fill 4 hungry adults.
