AuntySib, it might still be worth your while to purchase a random off-peak train ticket from somewhere local, for a couple of quid. It will be cheaper than buying the attraction ticket.

As long as it is a National Rail ticket, you should be OK. There are many National Rail stations within the London Zones.

The Ts & Cs for the offer are here, in case you have any doubts:

Sorry, should make clear that BOTH people need train tickets. But like I said, if you find a suitable station and get a good off-peak rate, you should still be able to make a good saving

Just further noticed that there are 5 of you, so you could get the tickets even cheaper using the Group Save, where three or four adults or children can travel for the price of two adults on various off-peak ticket types. Also additionally, up to four accompanying children pay £1.00 each.

As an example, 4 adults could get a group save ticket from London Bridge to Charing Cross stations for £9.40 total. This would mean you could use 2 x 2for1 vouchers, saving nearly £40.

Hope this makes sense.
