Hi,
we got a groupon meal voucher for a local restaurant as a gift. It expires soon, on 5th Feb, and we just rang up tonight to book, trying to get a table for Fri night - first chance we have had to get a babysitter.

So my DH mentioned on the phone that its a groupon deal and she said they were fully booked, and then he asked about thurs night and she said fully booked then too.

we were a bit Hmm about this so i rang back 5 mins later, and asked if i could book a table for fri night. she said 'is it a normal booking or a groupon?' and i said 'normal booking' - this was a Big Fat Lie Blush. she said no problem and booked us in.

Now, are they being very naughty here? Can we be sent packing when we arrive and announce that its a voucher? cant see anything in the small print about having to tell them its a groupon. I don't want our first night out in bloomin ages to be spoiled stressing about this, grrrr!!

any thoughts??

No I don't think they are being naughty. I don't think it's unusual to do that. They I'll have allocated a certain number of tables a night or whatever to groupon vouchers so they are not all grouponed out on the same night.

In my experience, you have to tell places when it's groupon. I have done a few haircut ones.

I don't know because if they don't let you have a table then you are doomed aren't you if it runs out on the fifth?

exactly - how annoying! anyway, have made DH promise to phone them on fri and explain that its a groupon voucher and i guess we will just see what they say...

checked groupon website and they do say that you have to state its a groupon deal when booking. oh well, now i know....

thanks for advice!

Email groupon explain and they will credit your account with a refund of credit, not cash but still better than dead voucher!
