If i've found a major bargain online (probably a mistake) will the shop have to sell at that price?

Just bought 15 pairs of boots for free! Postage only at 4.95.

Its probably a mistake!! Can they just cancel the order?

Yes they can.

There was a famous MN thread years ago where loads of people bought a bed for about £20. I don't think anyone got it.

said · 23/09/2011 19:13

Yes, and car seat for about 3 pence= all cancelled

AmberLeaf · 23/09/2011 19:15

Pm me a link please Grin

virgiltracey · 23/09/2011 19:15

Knew it was too good to be true. Its particularly rubbish since if it was a shop that had made the mistake they'd sell at the lower price wouldn't they? Will still hope and keep my fingers crossed though Grin not that I need 15 pairs of children's boots - I was only after 1!!

And there was something to do with Very or Littlewoods and a code that got you stuff for free and that was all cancelled. I rememebr the Mothercare carseats now.

virgiltracey · 23/09/2011 19:17

Ah I bought all 15 remaining pairs Amber since they were the very reasonable price of £0.00 Grin. I thought when I checked out they might charge me 15 lots of postage but they didn't!

VivaLeBeaver · 23/09/2011 19:18

Yes the done thing is to post it on here.

All of Mumsnet tries to get the bargain even if they don't have any feet. Then there are 2000 posts consisting of "have you got your boots yet", "my order is still open", "where are my boots".

People realise they're not coming and threaten to contact their MP, trading standars, etc.

Other people come on and point out that an advertised price is only an invitation to buy or something and doesn't mean the shop has to sell it. It drags on for weeks.

virgiltracey · 23/09/2011 19:23

Ah an invitation to treat

Yes that's right actually. Carbolic smoke balls.

Ah well. Was exciting for ten minutes!!

It was wellywarehouse if anyone fanices trawling the site for other errors.

In fact, maybe if I can increase their website traffic massively and they make a few sales they'll look kindly on me and deliver my wellies!

I had ordered one of the mother care too good to be true carseats, was gutted, but it's fair enough I guess!

SazZaVoom · 23/09/2011 19:27

The Very/Littlewoods ones did work BTW

MirandaWest · 23/09/2011 19:34

I renember succeeding with the Very/Littlewoods thing.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/09/2011 19:41

Someone I work with managed to get an almost £400 laptop for about £9 on john lewis Envy he saw it online and took down the product number. Instead of ordering on line he phoned them and they sent it to him next day.

I spent the day telling him to be prepared for them to cancel the order.

He was unbearably smug for ages after!

Tortoise · 23/09/2011 19:50

My son found a scooter in the Argos website that he wanted for his Birthday. Very good price he thought. Until I looked online and its £79! It says price in catalogue is error. He's most annoyed!

NoCarbsBeforeMarbs · 23/09/2011 19:51

I once got 2 free pink Sony DAB radios from Argos, only paid the postage!

Felt a little bit guilty- but not enough, so 4 years on I'm still using them...

Slobberedupon · 23/09/2011 19:59

Noooo.... They're out of the infant sizes in that welly :-( but am looking around the rest to see if the mistake is repeated. Just in case it does work...

catsareevil · 23/09/2011 20:06

Even if it was in a shop they dont have to sell you a wrongly priced item.

virgiltracey · 24/09/2011 09:40

Hmm so far so good have had a couple of emails saying my order is being processed......

maxybrown · 30/09/2011 15:38

pamelat · 30/09/2011 19:12

I managed to order a top for free on boden. Boys top,£12, they had sent me £10 gift voucher and no min spend and I usd 15% off with it - they cancelled after confirming order, thought it was a bit tight of them because the gift voucher is "money" - if you see what I mean??
