Do not click on Amazon Prime! I have been charged:(

I read alot and order alot of Dvds and books from Amazon. So of course when I saw a FREE months trial of Amazon prime which means that you get your deliveries quicker of course I clicked on yes. Stupid mistake as this month Amazon has charged me £49! without asking. However it seems the small print stated that I had to unsubscribe otherwise I would be charged. Anyone know how I can get a refund? This fee is for the whole year I think.

I'm afraid I don't know whether you will be able to get a refund - I think they make it fairly clear that you have to physically unsubscribe so probably won't be very sympathetic Sad

Can you not just enjoy whatever the perks of having it are for this year? Smile

VivaLeBeaver · 22/05/2011 18:35

You could just appeal to their better nature and beg them to refund. They don't have to though as it is in the terms and conditions that its up to you to cancel. Sorry you got caught out.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/05/2011 18:35

If you order a lot of stuff through Amazon, the £49 is a drop in the ocean, and well worth it over the year. Is it that finances are tight atm?

activate · 22/05/2011 18:36

yes you can get a refund - just email them and tell them and they'll refund you, so long as you haven't used the service

(I've done it before after a free trial)

Bella2010star · 22/05/2011 18:37

yeah we are moving house and I wanted a birthday present delivered at the time quickly so just saw that as a great idea. Why did I not see that I had to unsubscribe! what a plonker should of knew there was a catch.

I did this in error a few years ago Blush, they'll give a refund if you haven't actually taken advantage of the 'free' delivery since it was paid.

hth

I did the same and I got the money refunded, which was nice as it wasn't their fault. (Really must unsubscribe from Which while I think about it!)

I've used prime for years, it's well worth it. But most free trials you sign up for require you to cancel it if you want.

twolittledarlings · 23/05/2011 20:09

This happened to me in November, I thought it was great as Christmas presents got delivered within a day. However, I forgot to unsubscribe at the end of December and was charged £49 for the year.

But on the good note, its great. Have ordered loads since December and delivery is brillant, guaranteed 1 day delivery if ordered in the morning so now may decide to keep this running.

Very handy for last minute things. Well recommended.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 23/05/2011 20:12

Agree Prime is brilliant; and next-day delivery is to any address of your choice. Well worth the £49 if you use Amazon a lot. Or sign up for your free month's trial in November/December, like twolittledarlings. Grin

I have done the free trial twice and it was obvious both times that I needed to tick a box (or untick, I can't remember) to ensure it didn't automatically renew at a cost, after the trial ended. It also made it clear that I could unsubscribe right then at the beginning and my trial would continue and not automatically renew which I thought was rather good of them.

cazzybabs · 23/05/2011 20:20

if you haven't ordered anything since your free trail they will refund your money

tassisssss · 23/05/2011 20:23

Honestly you should go with it. It will make you order everything on amazon and it comes the next day for free. I adore amazon prime. I remember on a Thursday that I need a b'day gift for a weekend party and clickity click the gift is on its way and arrives the next morning (and cheaper than i'd get it on the high st).
