since I have about 6 birthdays prior to Christmas I am looking to save a few pennies.
ebay seems relatively expensive unless you are lucky!
does anyone know any good on-line places?
is it cheaper in the shops or at legoland?

thanks

On wwwbid.tv they have the USA version of lego or so they claim, called BEST-LOCK for sale. Apparently (they claim...) its just the same as lego in size and shapes etc but cheaper. Three big sets sold for £15 on saturday and there is more on the site to buy.

If it HAS to be lego brand, the sunday papers yesterday had a shopping comparison article on toys, and it seemed lego was the only thing they could not find cheaper - it was the same price on the lego website as a on other toy websites.

Or try ebay???

I am sure others will post better help for you soon!

monkey9237 · 11/10/2010 05:50

Oops sorry you already mentioned ebay...

TheGrumpalo · 11/10/2010 09:36

Look out for special deals such as the 3 for 2 deal that Argos had on recently. It covered ALL toys, Lego included so could have saved you a lot!

I'm sure they'll do it again before Christmas.

thisisyesterday · 11/10/2010 09:41

yeah unless you can find deals like the argos one it is pretty much the same price anywhere
sometimes you will find it in sales though

it's the same at legoland as in the shops/online

best-lock is a bit shit, a friend has a big box and because it's cheap it's harder to get the pieces together/apart, some of the bits are slightly irregular making them impossible/hard to use.

def go for the proper stuff

Tesco have half price Mega Blocks Micros, which are Lego by another name...

TheGrumpalo · 11/10/2010 09:47

BooBoo, I have already bought some Lego for my girls Xmas. Do you know if the Mega Blocks Micros are compatible with actual Lego? Thanks

BooBooGlass · 11/10/2010 09:50

It says it is and they have some other brands that say so and have been a perfect fit. I obv haven't opened it as it's for christmas, but amazon reviews suggest it's compatible. I got a big tub of about 550 pieces iirc, all for £15. Big saving

freefruit · 11/10/2010 11:02

ohh mega bloks micros clever thought!! Grin

Boots doing 3 for 2 inc lots of lego. I'd agree with thisisyesterday, bestlock is crap. DS1 given some and just got frustrated with it. Tesco might have some bargains closer to xmas.
You could try and search ebay for sellers near you to avoid p&p.

The3Bears · 11/10/2010 13:29

Sainsburys half price toy sale supposed to be 27th.

I've got some from boots, lego website on sale and very on sale. All duplo though :)

PinkyDink · 11/10/2010 15:09

Boots 3 for 2, Sainsbury's 1/2 price sale.

I bought some on the Argos 3 for 2 a couple of weeks ago as I had 3 boys birthday's in October. And I also got a bigger set as part of the 3 for 2 for my ds Xmas present.

We went to Legoland on Friday and I too wondered if there would be any lego cheaper. Afraid not. The keyrings & magnets were £1 more expensive than the Lego shop online Hmm, except the girls pack of magnets which were £1 cheaper.

I am keeping my eyes peeled for the Lego shop online to do some sort of promotion because I need to order a couple of things from there. A couple of months back they had free delivery on a £25 spend and then after that they did a free helicopter set.

TootAndCommon · 11/10/2010 15:17

None of the Lego-lookalikes are as good, IMO. The bricks fit together badly, too loose, too hard to get apart - just crap.

TootAndCommon · 11/10/2010 15:18

Legoland is only cheaper if you have a Merlin Card and can get 15% off.

DollyTwat · 11/10/2010 15:20

this is the code for free delivery from the Lego shop online

MrsJohnDeere · 11/10/2010 15:30

Some sets are cheaper on Amazon than in stores or other online shops (generally mixed boxes rather than particular items ime).

TheGrumpalo · 13/10/2010 09:25

I've bought two boxes of the mega blocks micros to try it out, thanks!

JanieK · 15/10/2010 19:53

If anyone is looking for the toy story lego, disney store had a couple of sets reduced to £12 and toysrus also had £ off some of the sets.

Thankfully I got a big box of lego bricks free in the Argos 3 for 2 (worth £30) when I bought 2 other items :)
