NLCS vs CLSG

11+ applicant keen on NLCS for the campus and facilities. We prefer CLSG for the central location and diversity. We have not yet settled on a home as we are moving anyway. But we would want to live in Central London. How do students cope with the long commute by coach from NW1,3 etc and does it not become onerous as the girls get older.

I don’t understand how they compare. We nicknamed CLSG as Gotham City in our circle of friends.
NLCS is absolutely amazing: great outdoor space, the friendliest bunch of people, excellent facilities, bright and spacious and top academics.

CLSG - go for the diversity and academic excellence.

We have commuted since reception to. NLCS on the coach. I assume you are at 11+ level, should be absolutely okay to use the tube and then the shuttle from Stanmore or Edgware stations or a walk from Cannons Park station. There are hundreds of girls who commute. The met line is v quick and then a change at Wembley Park for jubilee or a commute from NW3 on the northern.

Thank you for the responses. Phopa, since you have a dd at NLCS can you please comment on the atmosphere. I can see how it would be a relentless pressure cooker. My daughter is a smart hard worker who is self motivated. Is there a ton of homework and do the girls do work on the coach? During the offers event the faculty seemed to imply that homework was not oppressive. But I find that very hard to believe at such a high powered school. Please comment on CLSG as well if possible as I believe the academic outcomes are comparable.

How long did that take?
was it common even in prep years?

phopa · 27/02/2026 18:15

Between 20-45 mins depending on route.
there are plenty of coaches that serve london including 3 full early afternoon coaches that serve the junior school only.
there is a fair proportion of girls using the coach at NLCS but yes there is a large proportion who get dropped and picked up.

starfall1 · 27/02/2026 19:35

I was just looking at the NLCS Year 7 cohort photo - it is a broad mix! Definitely greater diversity than I expected.

starfall1 · 27/02/2026 19:50

Btw, NLCS homework is quite reasonable. A healthy amount to cultivate the habit of revision and practice.

phopa · 01/03/2026 07:30

Agree- the homework isnt that much atleast in junior school. We get no homework on the weekend or during holidays. I believe in senior school also its reasonable, bearing in mind that it is an academic school at the end of it.
