…you had a DD in y6 pretty academic selective, but v sporty across the board (a team/county level everything) and a DS y4 v academic selective and slightly less sporty …

We are thinking of a move out of the Home Counties for y7 or y8 or y9. Doesn’t have to be single sex or co-ed, but needs to be geographically close to each other. Not boarding.

i would stop work, but DH needs to be in London (can stay over for a night or two each week). Preference for more space over city (needs school facilities, particularly sport). I’d like proper hills and green space to be dog walking.

All recommendations and thoughts considered. Feel like I’m trying to pin a tack in a map of the UK - Lake District too far! The right school is key, but we don’t know where to start!

St John's, leatherhead/Ashtead.

Wiltshire and Marlborough if I had the money.

Look at Abingdon schools and work from there? Easy commute to London, St Helens and Abingdon School for the children... Lots of places to live nearby on bus routes to schools.

It isn't so easy to get into popular secondary schools in years 8 and 9. Tbh I think you may have left it too late if your eldest is already in year 6.

Repton in Derbyshire. Phenomenal sports training and facilities, and Peak District on your doorstep for dog walking and breathtaking open space.

Oundle and Rutland/north Northants sounds perfect.

Witham for your DS or Laxton prep.

Other option would be Wiltshire and Marlborough.

If were me in your situation, these would be the top two choices.

good luck!

Also Winchester/Hampshire and St Swithuns/Winchester.

Commute for London from Peterborough or Corby for Oundle School.

Wiltshire Marlborogh from Swindon, chippenham or Pewsey.

Witham hall (prep) and then oundle day (academically selective and strong) or Uppingham. All great with sports. All offer boarding but strong day cohorts.
1 hour commute fast train to London.
