DC has just started Y7 at a large private school with a strong reputation. He went through prep school, and parents always received a curriculum overview at the start of each academic year so that we could know in broad terms what they would be learning about. However, we have received no such info for Y7 and when I asked the Head they seemed quite bemused. He seemed to think it fine that we would probably find out when the children got their reports (ie at the end of term). And other parents who had children further up the school seemed to think this was all fine and that we should just trust to the school, the children get great results, even the more average ones, yadda yadda.
It isn’t that I don’t trust the school, more that I believe that life is NOW, education is NOW, and I would like to talk with my child about what they are learning in Y7 now. For my child, GCSEs are still years off. Is it so unusual not to receive a curriculum overview in Senior School?
