Hi all,
Does anyone have any recommended tutors they used for 4+ assessments? Please can you send me ones that you have used and which school your children have gotten into?
Thanks!

The trouble is that schools who select at 4+ all do it slightly differently. My big piece of advice us that the child needs to be confident to go off with someone they have never met before. I have heard of two cases where the children are both bright enough to enhance any class room but the parents had completely neglected to prepare their child for having to go off without them. One child just refused to leave the parent and the school staff would not force the child to go with them so it was a waste of everyone's time. In the other case the child was persuaded to go in but cried a lot and when they came out everyone knew the child would not be attending that school.

It is true, they are all slightly different, but the core of what they are trying to get is the same. As I've said before, there's only so much you can ask a 3 year old!

Regarding a crying or upset child: I was Head of Pre-Prep and responsible for the 4+ assessments. We were very experienced in helping the children relax and feel comfortable once they came into the assessment room. Everyone involved in these assessments across the schools are good at settling children - it's what we do - especially at the start of the school year!

On the very odd occasion, we would not be able to settle a child, in those cases we would return them to their parents and ask them to contact admissions and look for a spare slot to try again. This is the practice for a lot of the schools, however, some have such huge numbers (WUS!) that it might not be possible to try again.
