Hello, highly academic and sporty DC, with diagnosis of ASD, ADHD and PDA. Masks so you wouldn’t know unless spent lots time with DC and has EHPC at draft stage. Looking for recommendations for mainstream private not specialist private schools with excellent SEN support (not with learning).

It sounds like your child has lots of special needs. A specialised private school seems to make more sense if you want those needs addressed. Mainstream private is exactly that, even with SEN help, the majority of private schools cannot cope with an ECHP. There are some excellent SEN schools though, nothing to be afraid of.

Sunnydown near Caterham. (boys)

Pda is very tricky in an independent mainstream. Even with an EHCP.

The problem being is that schools are not flexible enough for pda children. Then they want to off roll in the private independent even if it’s a named school and they can do this.

More protected in the state symtem.

I haven’t found an independent school that has a good understanding about sen / pda for an independent mainstream senior school. As school equals strict rules and then that is when the pda child can’t cope as it’s not flexible enough

As usually pda can bubble for the prep side and then the demands get getting too high around yr5/6 and end up with ebsa plus other mental health issues

Plus do consider a longer day in an independent school and more demands / expectations about the beautiful 11 plus/ weekly exams

Good luck if you find one please let me know!
(I know of a girls inclusive prep school but no seniors but not sure if they would accept pda )

Even the specialist sen schools they don’t even want to take pda children 😭 very tricky

Good luck

Other option is online schools. But then they miss out on social interactions / sports playing against other schools.

I hope your LA isn’t Surrey as they are the an absolute nightmare to deal with. Really horrific! Unlawful.

I’m thinking of moving so I’m not with Surrey LA!

Good luck
