DS visiting another school during day - what do I tell the school?

It's in the afternoon at 2, so he won't go back afterwards, but I'm not sure what to say to the school? I don't particularly want to tell them about it yet, as we're not 100% sure if we're sending him there. It's likely, but until we know for sure I'm not too keen on sharing the info. Can I claim he has a doctor's appt or do they ask for proof of this? Or would you just be upfront and tell them in the morning that you're picking DS up at 2 to visit another school?

He's in Y2 and is keen to visit the school. He says he hasn't told anyone at school, but you never really know!

Thanks

Apart from a single session of unauthorised absence, what difference does it make?

I would just say he has an appointment and not specify further unless asked. Don’t be surprised if he tells teachers / classmates though.

Just email the office to say you'll be picking him up early that day and give the time. He will presumably have already been marked present for the afternoon session so they really won't care why he's leaving early.
