Hello,

i need to prepare my Year 6 child for a CAT4 for a school entrance assessment. There seem to be so many websites for prep but u need to pay for them. Which one is the best? His test is really soon so im hoping i can get some responses in time to help me prepare him. Thanks in advance!

Entrance assessment for a Y7 2025? As almost all of these will be done already.

CAT4 tests are supposed to be general tests so not a huge amount of prep in theory can be done. But if he’s never done one already I’d sign up to Atom for month or two - the most expensive version and they have practice tests as well as general practice modules so he can familiarise with format of questions for it (like non verbal reasoning and spatial reasoning that doesn’t normally get taught at schools)

Not necessarily, lots of schools still have late entry spaces available. Have a look at the age appropriate bonds books.....they are apparently good for prep. With my daughter we looked at the verbal and non verbal reasoning ones (just for 10 minutes the day before the test)....she got in, don't know her score as they wouldn't share that info but she did very well apparently. Lots of kids do a lot of prep, and it can improve scores a bit, but we took the view that we didn't want to stress her out too much. Didn't want to prep her too much as we wanted her to be her authentic self and for them to accept her based on who she really is.

I hope I'm not replying too late. Some websites offer free practice tests, so you can start with that and see how your child performs. Then, maybe focus just on the sections that your child struggles with, for example, figure matrices, number analogies, etc.
Here's one free practice test that I found helpful: https://prepopedia.com/free-cat4-level-c-sample/
