DD has been invited for an academic scholarship interview at Leighton Park for 11+ entry. Does anyone have any experience of what might be involved?

DD had 13+ academic scholarship assessment + interview in November for the school she is already at. Each school will be different but her interview consisted of a panel interview (Head, Head of academic, Head girl + 1 of the HouseMistresses). Q were around: which of the school's key qualities do you feel you represent and why? What are your passions and give us more information about why? How do you demonstrate a commitment to the ethos of the school? Then a few more around leadership and what she enjoys out of school.

She said all the panel were lovely and supportive.

Thanks! Older child got an academic schol offer when she went to senior school a few years ago, but didn’t apply to this school and her schol was based purely on exam scores so haven’t been through this before!

Hi, I wondered if you might be able to share a bit about what kinds of questions were covered (if you remember?). Am in the same position.

Child was not very forthcoming but from what I recall the scholarship at LP is either for English or for Maths and so the interview will be focussed on one of those. Mine had an English one and from what I can remember they discussed different genres of fictions and then she got asked some more probing questions to see how deeply she understood all of the above or whether it was just surface understanding. That was as much as I could get out of her and she couldn’t even remember the list of genres they discussed. Something must have gone ok as they offered her one (and a dance schol) but from the offers we had from private schools we decided upon Reading Blue Coats for her (also with academic and dance schols)
