Chigwell school 4+

Hello wondering if anyone can give me any advice

so my DC unfortunately did not pass the 4+ entry assessment and Chigwell were not able to offer him a space

i have read on some old threads that some mums were able to get their children into Chigwell mid year and after the entry points

has anyone got any sort of information on this? Would my DC need to sit through another assessment if they give offers outside entry points?

It’s been a while since we did the 4+ but was it a straight no or were you offered a waiting list place? My experience is with another school but I assume it would be similar. If it was a no then it maybe hard to get an admission between now and the 7+ as I’m not certain they will re-test for someone who has been through the 4+ process, but no harm in asking about this with the school. Also a lot can change between now and 7+ so definitely try for that when the time comes. If it was a waiting list place then it’s worth reconfirming with the school your interest and that you would take a place if an occasional place comes up in other years.

Also, if it is a waiting list place definitely contact them around national offer day for reception as people may get into their preferred state school and release the place at Chigwell and showing you are interested and keen in my experience helps with them offering a place.

Hi @Herewegoagainnnnnn it was a no, he is not on a reserve list either. Thank you for your response on this i guess i will just have to wait and try my luck by contacting them to check for places

also on the day of testing the other parents who i spoke to, their children were winter born ( October November) which i found to be odd and bizarre as Chigwell mentioned they would group children of similar born months together- my Son is a summer born and cant help but feel like they had more advantage over him :-(

you can do mid year, fyi- there has been major behavioural issues in the junior school, whilst the grounds are impressive I strongly suggest you look into this

@Km231 I would also keep checking in with admissions (they like to know you're still keen) as there are more and more 'occasional places' due to VAT being added to fees. Sadly parents realise they can't go on, so apply to state schools and when those places come up they leave their independent school. Hopefully your child is doing well at the school they're at now as they will be called up at any point should a vacancy arise mid year. Keep on top of what he should be expected to know for his age group. Fingers crossed!
