Hello, has anyone got recent experience on attending the prep school in Sidcup, Merton Court and what it's like? Also looking at West Lodge and Benedict House, would really love some up to date reviews. I'm leaning towards Merton Court, primarily because the facilities are superb and without knowing what my little one will be like academically, I'm wanting a more rounded experience. Thanks.

We had two children attend Benedict House from pre-school through Year 6, so we've had a long experience with the school. During that time, there have been six headteachers, which speaks to the extremely high turnover. It’s unsettling to see so much change in leadership, and it inevitably affects the school’s consistency and direction.

The latest headteacher, Mr. Wardle, did not live up to expectations. He made grand promises but ultimately failed to deliver on them. Now that he’s leaving, it’s not surprising at all.

On a positive note, the children are well-nurtured, and both of mine felt safe and happy there. The staff did create a welcoming and supportive environment for the students. However, there were certainly areas for improvement. The high turnover, coupled with some shortcomings in leadership, made the experience less than ideal.

If you're looking for a school that provides a warm atmosphere for young children, Benedict House delivers on that front. But be aware of the frequent leadership changes, which can impact the school’s overall stability.

That's really useful to know, thanks for the insight. I hadn't realised the current head is leaving, wonder what's causing the high turnover over leadership?

@TheTeaTea hi, I am in a similar situation for my DS. We are also leaning towards Merton Court for Sep entry. Given the date of this post it looks like you have decided already. It will be extremely helpful to know what you decided finally and what your experience has been.

@PulsHere My son attends Merton Court and it's a great school. Provides a real balanced and all-rounder education. Quite academic - daily homework but also lots of sports, trips and other activities to keep them busy and build their confidence. Very warm, friendly and accessible staff. My son is very happy there. I'll definitely recommend.
