my 3 year old has just been offered a place at The Avenue nursery in Highgate. I’d love to hear what people think of this school (it goes up to 7 yrs). Any thoughts at all are most welcome.

Just thought I'd quickly reply to this as no-one else has! One of my DCs went to the Avenue for a nursery year before going to Highgate pre-prep in the 3plus year.

It was lovely and nurturing. Great garden with rabbits and chickens. It did, to me, feel more like a nursery than a school and I can't really say how the teaching is.

If you are leaning towards private schools in the area (Highgate, Channing, UCS etc), I would maybe check out their record of getting kids through the 7plus as this is often stressful and competitive (although this might become less so with the introduction of VAT). I'd also look at the good state primaries locally (Coleridge, St Michaels). Hope this helps.

Thank you so much Angelasparty. I really appreciate your words of advice. I am a single parent and feeling a little at sea with it all! I went to The Avenue this morning and was so impressed by the warmth and intelligence of the staff. I have accepted a place, with the intention of sending him to a bigger school a little further down the line. I agree with you that it feels more like a nursery than a school.... time will tell me if it will be right for my boy post nursery.

My child went to the Avenue from reception to Year 2 and then took 7+ for Highgate. It's a small school and preps them well for exams. Good focus on music.
