4+ Assessment at South Hampstead High School

Hello everyone!

We just got our date for the first assessment at SHHS and wonder of anyone can share some tips and details on what to expect? Are we allowed to go in with them or leave them by the gate?

It’s ok to go in to help settle the kids down but you’ll come out once she settles.

We went through this last year and for both rounds, you are expected to drop them off at the gates (we didn’t see anyone go in with their child, the teacher came out to collect them). They did colouring in, listening to a story and using building blocks from what I remembered my dd telling me.

We are also interested in SHHS 4+; will be doing the assessment for the 2026 entry. Does anyone know what phonics scheme SHHS use in Reception / Year 1? Is it Read White Inc?
