DS, yr3, just started swimming lessons at school. He wears shorts to school every day, we don't have any school trousers.

He came home from swimming last week saying that one of the teachers had told him to wear trousers next week when they go swimming "as it's quicker to put trousers on than shorts".

Am I going bonkers here or is this just a completely daft thing for her to say? It's not really relevant but DS is very good at changing quickly and told me (and I believe him) that he was first out of the changing rooms anyway - he's always much quicker than me and I'm no slouch.

Now obviously I am not going to buy any trousers, but wondered if anyone else had come across this?

My son's school wears shorts (longish ones) all year round. He is skinny and feels the cold but had no problems with this at all--especially as they wear long socks. At breaktime they all run around like crazy so they don't get cold. If it snows they put on tracksuit bottoms on top.

It's what boys always used to wear. Are we that much weaker?

My son didn't have a single day off sick while he wore the shorts.

My DSs have to wear shorts all year round from year 1 to year 5. Foundation stage wear tracksuit type uniform and year 6 are allowed to wear long pants. The girls all wear skirts but are allowed to wear tights.

The draw back with long pants is that DS1 already needs new ones as they are creeping towards his ankles. Ds2 will get all year out of his shorts.

When it gets really cold I put joggers on over DS2s shorts for the long walk to and from school. I think they get used to it to be honest and dont feel the cold as much as we think.
