A question about school residential trips - well just wondering something

Well more than one question but:

When your dc go on a residential trip who allocates the dorms? Do the teachers decide and do the children have any input?

What happens if your child is unhappy with who they will be rooming with - would you expect anything to be done about it?

Am curious to see how this is handled in other schools.

Thank you!

We never tell parents to avoid them wading in. We tell the children when they get there and they’re fine. They’re so busy, they don’t have time to think about it. Let the school just get on with it.

At primary they got to choose 3-4 people and were guaranteed one, though this was a bit tricky for DS as he only had two good friends, one who was a girl and one in another class (think mixing classes made it too complicated), but he picked two people in his class he got on ok with, was put with them and it was fine.
He's now at high school and it seems to depend on the teacher who's running the trip as across three trips they've had the choose 3-4 people, teacher chooses and even one where they told them to sort it out themselves when they got there.
What has been consistent is they don't tell them until they've left.
