hi ladies here is our new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Aranea · 27/10/2009 21:00

Our parents' evening didn't really tell me anything I hadn't known before. We only had 5 minute slots, which just about gave them time to tell us that dd1 had settled well, was playing with lots of other children, had very advanced language skills and rather adult attitudes which made things a bit difficult for her sometimes, and that they were happy with her reading. Then they shunted us off. Dh had questions but didn't feel he was given the chance to ask any!

Acinonyx · 27/10/2009 21:13

Yes I really don't want to seem like a pushy parent but then I do want as much info as I can squeaze out of them in 10 mins. Dh can't make it as it's early afternoon to 7.

treedeLivingDeadery · 28/10/2009 09:45

Wrote lovely long reply and the computer shut down to reconfigure it's self. Gah!

So, in short, I agree with you all.

Bloody computers

moodlum · 28/10/2009 20:53

Sorry but WTF has happened to mn? its all changed. I'm a scorpio y'know and i hate change.

Feel all unsettled.

Aranea · 28/10/2009 22:05

It looks the same to me, but with the attractive and quirky feature of an enormous bit of white space forcing me to scroll down every bloody page before I can see any text. Gah.

treedeLivingDeadery · 28/10/2009 23:03

It's like a big jumbled up jigsaw.

My eyes my eyes!!

I see the addd stil work perfectly.

golgi · 29/10/2009 08:07

I saw a thread from MN saying there are a few "issues" and they are trying to sort it, meanwhile try refreshing the page and see if it helps.

I don't think it's deliberate change. Facebook has gone strange as well, but they've done that on purpose.

treedeLivingDeadery · 29/10/2009 23:08

My mn still odd, I'm finding it hard to concentrate!

Can't believe tomorrow is Friday. I haven't seen enough of her at all yet. My mum has been up, which is lovely as she loves to see her dgc's. My dd is one of those kids though, who has a sun around which she orbits. All others are ignored. Nanna has been the sun and I have been dumped. Bless her, I think lots are like this as kids.

Aranea · 30/10/2009 12:54

Oh, yes, I'm completely irrelevant when my parents are around I rather like it.

paisleyleaf · 30/10/2009 20:01

My DD's been knackered every evening this week. I'm glad the clocks changed at the beginning of the half term break to give her time to get straight. She's been ready for bed around 6.

The school are doing the shoebox thing when they go back (I know)..........any ideas how I explain why father christmas doesn't give the children presents?

Aranea · 30/10/2009 20:12

What's the shoebox thing?

paisleyleaf · 30/10/2009 20:17

Putting together shoeboxes containing gifts for less fortunate children around the world.

Aranea · 30/10/2009 20:43

Oh, I see. And they're doing that instead of having father christmas come to school?

paisleyleaf · 30/10/2009 21:38

No . I was just wondering what to say to DD when she asks (as she's sure to) about why father christmas doesn't give the children in Bosnia etc a stocking full of presents.
....I might say something like, we're doing the boxes for father christmas to pick up and deliver them.

Aranea · 30/10/2009 21:54

Ohhhh. Sorry to be slow. Wow, I really don't think that question would occur to dd1. Couldn't these just be substitutes for gifts that other people can't afford to give the children, and therefore an entirely separate issue from father christmas? I imagine the message the children will be taking from this is that others have less money and material wealth - so wouldn't that just be horribly muddling if it had anything to do with father christmas at all?

treedeLivingDeadery · 30/10/2009 23:04

I'd go with the idea that the kids will still get pressis, but as we have so much and they have less than us, we are sharing to make it more equal. It's too depressing to have the whole starving deprived thing I think.

HAve had a sort of clothes on a biblical scale. I could actually open a shop. It's embarrasing! So now have room in wardrobe for dd's uniform. Its all lined up and ready to go. I don't want her to go back, and put that scratchy dark uniform on. I want her to bum about with me all day in velour baggies and walk to the shop for sweets.

I've shared her lots this week. Have relly missed our own time together, but have to share. It's only fair. I am so lucky to have such interested gp's. And dd is truly blessed.

Had spooky park walk tonight. It was spooky warm and really windy, it was very dark and really quite nice. Pouring now so good timing!!

New of the car....it might be back next weekend. Yay my mummy mobile!!!! I so want it back. DD2 is rreally hard to get in the carseat of mum's car. Bless her for letting us have it so long.

Our car is getting a new engine. I'd like a new engine.

golgi · 30/10/2009 23:05

We don't have all presents from FC - he brings a few things for the stocking, we give the rest.

So you could say that FC brings them some presents but because they have less money their families can't afford to buy them some as well, and that's where the boxes come in.

Or explain that because they are Muslim they don't celebrate Christmas

treedeLivingDeadery · 30/10/2009 23:06

x-posts!

FC pisses me off actually. He gets all the credit for being so clever and getting such a lovey thing. Harumph. He brings one thing, we get the rest. Also the cat goves, and this year for the first time, her sister! Fabby!

golgi · 30/10/2009 23:20

MIL turned up one year, on boxing day, with gifts for the boys "from FC".
Well no, MIL, they are clearly from you, as you are bringing them the day after Christmas. And that way the boys can also say thankyou!

paisleyleaf · 31/10/2009 16:01

Thanks, the sharing to make it more equal is a good way of putting it.

golgi, fancy FC bringing pressies to your MIL to pass on ..... as if he's not busy enough!

Tree, oh I know what you mean about not wanting them to go back to school. It's been nice at home.
(New engine sounds a big job).

DD's actually got an inset day monday, so goes back tuesday.

moodlum · 01/11/2009 16:29

Hi ladies - just catching up on the thread - be on properly later. Had such a lovely half term spoilt only by dd & ds spending yesterday taking turns vomiting.

Lay in bed this morning thinking how god awful it would be at the same time tomorrow when I would be in the car looking for a parking space outside school. DS doesn't actually go back to school tomorrow, so we can have a little time together, but dd does so its sort of back to normal.

Be back later. Hopefully with a pic of ds on my profile once I can find the right cable!!! (better use the halloween emoticons whilst I can )

treedeLivingDeadery · 01/11/2009 17:01

Last eve of freedom.

last half term of freedom for me too, work will loom next term. Arse.

Took dd to town today, just to M&S. It was my second time with her in the week - like I say, when family around I get royally dumped. It was lovely though. We had a drink in the cafe and a natter. Now making meccano airplane with her which is less than great. What a faff!!

Break for dinner though. Thank God!

paisleyleaf · 01/11/2009 17:39

ironing polo shirts

treedeLivingDeadery · 01/11/2009 19:05

Joy.

golgi · 01/11/2009 21:40

I've ironed polo shirts too.
The next half term is just silly-busy for me, I have told my husband not to expect me to surface before Christmas.

The boy is ready to go back, I think. He was so lovely at the beginning of the week I thought he'd been swapped for another one, but today he has been a whiny whingebag.
