AIBU, to think school should not have three whole days doing no school work this week?

ds (yr 3) finishes school on Weds afternoon.

The children packed up their classroom on Friday with the teacher. This morning they had leavers' assembly and one lesson of maths. They watched movies, other than lunchtime, for the rest of the day. There's no more work now, just parties and playing and toy day etc.

Teachers used to clear up the classroom after school shut. Why just throw 3 or 4 days away? I mean they don't have to do masses but just some work?

I think it's much harder not working than teaching to the end and I hate toy days !!
Having said that we had a BBQ on Monday and dug up the potatoes we have grown and prepared a salad from produce grown by the children and did our work out doors while the sun shone. Today was my TAs last day so we had lots of parents popping in to say goodbye ... very kind if a little disruptive.

WE HAD A WEEK OF not movies, but "fun"work" - the kids were not up to much. I wasn't tiding the classroom - it was more s question of what I could get the children to do! We did some writing, a bit of mental maths, and craft and cooking...but not actual what you would call work, plus assemblies and parties

Totally agree re the winding down, my ds is knackered! But (cant remember if already mentioned this) to have done these fun things all day and then bring stuff home is a bit off imo. If they are having wind down days because they are tired, well then they are certainly tired after school. ds has had a religious booklet to complete (catholic school) in the last few weeks, a few pages at a time. I think he would have done a better job earlier in the year, he has switched off now- well he is 6, he is mostly switched off/in his own world

Anyway last night I had to find and print off 4 photos from the internet, not something he could do on his own. Then cut and stick- surely this would not have been too taxing a task in class in between the 3 dvds a day?!
