6c Science would be (depending on the school) top set Y7, middle Y8 and borderline/slightly below average end of Y9.

Basically the average at end of Y6 is 4b and the average at end of Y9 is 6b

So top set Y6 would be a 5b, top set Y9 a 7b or higher.

Pupils are expected to make 2 sub levels progess each year. Therefore ANY child getting a 5 in sats (a 5b in the school assessment software) will automatically be set a 6c target for end of Y7 (two sub levels above).

Question to those who teach science Y6

Were this years Science SATs easier than previous years? I ask because we achieved 100% level 4 or above and 64% level 5s. Not taking anything away from the science teacher or the hard work the children put into their study.

Our school did amazingly (and surprisingly) well in Science this year - but significantly less well than expected (also surprisingly) in English.

Thanks Seeker we did really well in English ( as predicted but surprising in light of the writing tests content - if you see what I mean) had a slight unexpected dip in Maths.

It is good for a year 6 to get a target of 6c by the end of year six. I got 5a in science at the start of year 7. It's not unlikely, loads of people (including me) got either level 5a's or 6c's in year six for all lessons.
