children sent to school with no sun protection

I have been absolutely AMAZED by how many parents have sent their child to school yesterday and today with no suncream, hat, sunglasses etc...I had 5 in my class today with none of the above. It is a parents responsibility to protect their child's skin from the sun, it's pretty basic. Everyone knows about the causes of skin cancer, and about the issues with the ozone layer, or lack there of.

One of my kids came in today at the end of lunch with obvious sunburn on the back of his neck. It only takes one bad sunburn to put you at such a hugely increased risk for skin cancer...I know, I have had it.

I am thinking of not allowing my pupils out tomorrow at play if they do not have sun cream or a hat to protect them...The sad part is that 95% of children are well protected...but it is that 5% that always show up without...interestingly enough, they are also the ones who have to be chased for forms being signed and returned etc etc..
So, if you are one of the parents who have not sent their child in with suncream or a hat, please do so...it is so so so important.

Melissa, do you generally find people respond well to being ranted at and criticised?

mrz · 02/07/2009 21:25

Honestly I don't see it a huge issue -
A simple "Did mum put any sun cream on this morning"? and apply if the answer is no...

I am genuinely puzzled by many people on this thread.I haven't a clue what Melissa is ignorant of , noone has said.
I do think she is conducting herself with a lot of dignity in the face of a lot of weird criticism

POTC · 02/07/2009 21:42

The 'weird criticism' as you put it is in response to the attitude melissa puts across in her early posts, which oddly enough contain much criticism in themselves.

melissa75 · 03/07/2009 08:33

thank you katiestar! I am glad some people actually read things.

As for me....I have asked on many occasions for my "ignorance" to be quoted, and yet noone seems to be able to do this....SO...I am done with this thread....post as much venom as you like, but I won't be reading it, and I hope others will not either...or if they do, I at least hope that they read the rest of the thread to actually see what I have said in ALL posts as it seems that many have not actually done this. Sad really, because one should not throw rocks without knowing all the details.
over and out

Yet another spat, Melissa?

You do seem to be involved in quite a few on MN, both with parents and teachers alike.

I have lost count of the number of threads you have signed off like this now, Melissa!

And you usually come back, having vowed you won't even so much as read it....
